First Alu-Cab Canopy Camper on 1st gen Tacoma Xtracab*

Coming from a fellow first gen owner, I actually like the look of the alu cab on your truck much better than the GFC; looks like a true adventure machine. What do you mean by the bed of the first gen is 2-3 inches lower? and how does that effect the fitment? From the looks of it, the bed rails...

    1996 Mitsubishi Canter Deluxe

So you have to climb out of the camper and onto the roof every time you want to go to sleep? Seams annoying, poor design.

    Our Round-the-World adventure

What an adventure! quick question, what kind of suspension were you running in the rear? Did you have air bags or heavyweight leaf springs (or both). That's crazy that the welds broke! Glad they got you guys sorted and hopefully it doesn't happen again! I've had the frame crack on my Tacoma so I...

I sold it. Hinges didn't line up. Self tapping screws werent holding. Saw a post from one of the new owners on reddit and seams like he's got the screws drilled out and hinges fixed.

Hey, it fit well; I had to use a rubber mallet to get the bead on though in some spots

Ive thought about that but the fibreglass is too thick for a riv nut. It needs a backing to hold onto, and I don't think it would clear the fibreglass, if that makes sense

I already used 3M VHB with self tapping screws and a few of the screws weren't holding and were coming loose. That's why I'm trying to do nut and bolt now. Do you think rivets would be better? Even though the hinges aren't load bearing (from my understanding) they still hold some weight, and...

Yup, will definitely be cutting the ends off before I put the skirt back on. hmm, if I could go back in time that's what I would have done, I guess my only option right now is to prop it open then.

@gwittman did you encounter a similar issue when you replaced your latches? How were you able to get a nut and bolt on the top half of the hinge. I feel like there is no room in there for me to put my hand in and thread the nut onto the bolt. Any help is appreciated.

    Wildernest Restoration

Alright, I've ran into some problems and I don't know what to do. I'm hoping someone here can offer some help. I'm in the process of removing the screws from the hinges and putting nut, washer, and bolts on so they are more secure. Problem 1.) some of the screws broke and are lodged into the...

So it turns out I don’t actually have a mildew problem. The reason my canvas looks so bad is because the polyurathane coating is flaking off, in all spots. I’m going to use a heavy duty detergent and spray that on the canvas, let it sit, and then pressure off after. Then I’m going to treat the...

    Wildernest Restoration

It's funny you mention that about the self tapping screws. I took it out the other weekend and a couple of the hinges started coming out, and a couple of the screws broke. So now I'm going to take all the screws out and drill in nuts with bolts (as it was originally). After that I'm going to...
