    My first Disco!

Awesome! Thanks guys for all the help so far. Plenty of questions keep popping into my head. I was crawling around underneath it yesterday and noticed a little surprise to the tune of a full Old Man Emu suspension setup. Stock height, and by the feel of it, it's brand new, and I'm a fan...

    My first Disco!

Ok cool. The truck has got all new running gear underneath it and is pretty good driving. The steering wheel is a little off center, a HUGE pet peeve of mine, gotta fix that. It looks more blue/gray now in some decent sunlight. I owe you guys pictures of it. Also, the exhaust is loose and...

    My first Disco!

Awesome. I'll be coming to you for a lot of questions then. I know for a fact that the 4.0 is a motor that you have to keep a keen eye on, but from what I understand, the 3.9 is a decent one, right? Even then, I'm going to keep a close eye on everything, but is there anything in particular I...

    My first Disco!

Oh ok. It's that lovely Land Rover green color. And it's an automatic transmission if that's what you're getting at. So far I love it. Drives like a dream.

    My first Disco!

I finally did it! I went full retard. Picked up my first Disco on a trade. I lucked out and traded somebody my 97 Dodge Ram for it. Wow. It's a 95 model, loaded. Jump seats, leather all that jazz. 185,500 on the clock. What really grabbed me about it that I jumped all over it for was that...

Blinking Lights Between 2WD and 4WDH

Yeah, it's not normal if you don't get that issue every once in a while. What works for me consistently is when going between 4H and 2H, I'll coast in neutral while moving. Just enough reverse pressure to pop it right back into 2H.

Yeah, I run them at a lower PSI year round. I try to keep them somewhere between 24-26 PSI at all times road or off road. Especially since this thing is my daily driver, but not the road trip vehicle. I just really need to man up and get onboard air.

Actually, those Firestone Destination A/T's are surprising off road. Pretty grippy, and with the daily driver ability of them on the road I'm pretty happy. That, and they were cheap, so I could have more money to do this --> :safari-rig: I live down on the coast in Fort Walton. We do most...

Here's some pictures from wheeling this weekend. Just the Yamato and a friend's brand spankin' new 2012 Jeep (sport model). Again ... gotta love the Montero! The 2wd challenge. Yamato blitzed through it like a proven Dakar warrior, but alas! The Jeep's traction control system definitely...

    SOFpirate's 1996 Montero LS buildthread.

Well ... it's been a while. Sorry I haven't posted in so long. Work has kept me rather busy ... along with life in general. I've been too busy working on everybody's vehicles besides my own, that the poor Yamato has sat derelict and unloved. I feel like a jerk. Anyways, time to get back...

That's a great catch! Welcome to the community. If you want any ideas on your Gen 1, look at Cruisin's build. He easily has set the precedence for Gen 1 builds. But again, beautiful vehicle and welcome.

    Monty SR electric fans

I haven't put any louvres on my Montero yet, but I've also had them on previous rigs. My 73 Suburban had a set that were moderately sized and tasteful, and one summer in Vegas I unknowingly ran all summer long without any coolant whatsoever. Not until late in the summer did I realize that...

The auto is a standard 4 speed. Long gears. I can't speak to the manual, but I think it would be safe to assume they're even better.

How many "transmission problems" posts have you seen? All jerky responses aside ... they're so reliable and bullet proof, I tend to forget about it. I just throw it in gear and go.

Tell me more about these Monteros

I had leaky VGS on my '96 3.0 SOHC. Fixed and no more leaky. It was due to improper maintenance by prev owner.

So ... wait. IIRC, you CAN fit a Monty with 35's on a 2" budget puck boost!?!

    Thoughts on this gen 2.5?

The blinking 4WD light typically isn't that big of a deal. Just keep cycling it and it'll eventually work itself out 90% of the time.

I like it. The only thing is it came in about 800 pieces, including the bolts. So you have to put the whole thing together yourself. Me and my dad did it in about 4 hours. It works really well, the hook points on the sides are awesome. It fits well on the truck, and it carries everything I...
