Here's my $0.02. I drive '02 DC 2.7l 2wd and get the same mileage as the 3.4l 4wd. So if someone tries to tell you that 4 cyl DC gets better mileage, don't believe it. They are great trucks though. You wouldn't go wrong buying one.

No, I've not run into any problems with ovewrheating the tranny. Even running around out here in AZ during the summer.

I have 2002 Prerunner with a Detriot Locker in the rear, 3" lift and sliders. I have amazed quite a few people with I take it, but knowing the limits of your skills and your trucks capabilities is key. Every so often I get a little help from folks, but over all I'm impressed with the Prerunner.
