I have a FRED light, it runs on AAs, I'll have to check how it's doing but I suspect it has the same soft-switch problem. For a product that's meant to be stored for a long time then relied upon in an emergency, a hard switch does make more sense. Maybe I can just re-insert the battery...

I've got an AW100, and while it's an adequate P&S, the quality of the photos don't compare to what comes out of my D50/18-200. It's somewhat better quality than my iPhone 4. I miss having PASM capability - or at least being able to set a very slow shutter speed manually.
