    Bilbo, an XJ build thread.....

I'm only on my third xj. For what you are wanting to do, I would recommend 31's (or 265/75r16 if you like 16 inch rims). 3 inch lift with stiffest springs you can find. I also have poly inserts in my coil springs and love it. Can take a huge hit and not feel like your teeth are going to fall...

    89 Cherokee build

Nice! my xj is on 35's just so I can do Dusy and Rubicon type trails, but for most other uses 31 inch tires are perfect. What are those swastika looking things in the paint job???

    Portable Winch question

I had a warnxd9000 on a multi mount for years on my old Toyota wheeling rig. Used it fairly often from the rear, however, that is simply due to me leaving it there most of the time. I could very easily have used it from the front most of those times. The very few times I actually needed to...

Honest opinions on the Grizzly locker?

Not sure how much Randy's is quoting for changing the bearings, or adding a locker, but I would simply find a low mileage junkyard axle with the g80 in it. I have one in my 2001 8.1 burb and it works great. $3-400 bucks at a full service junkyard, or less if you find someone parting something...

    Theoretically, would it fit...?

I was about to say, snorkels look dumb and do you really think you are going to drive through 4 feet of water, but then I looked up the aev things. Look much more "construction" type industrial than most. Not bad looking. still wont drive through all that water very often, but if you like it...

Ford Excursion and $5k To Spend: What Would You Do?

I would not drop a cent into that thing. Save the money for the fuel you are about to use. 25,000 miles at 10 mpg or so, 2500 gallons at 2.50/gallon is a lot of money.

Advice on starting issue '99 C2500 Suburban

Please report back when you get this thing running again. Always good to hear the fix. Having a hard time thinking its the starter based on your narrative of no start, change positive cables, starts fine for a month, then no start, clean cables, and it starts again. Seems like getting...

Advice on starting issue '99 C2500 Suburban

Sounds like your negative cable was not changed? Get it changed. How does the new positive battery cable just magically come loose? My guess is it was never tightened adequately, then developed corrosion and needs to be cleaned and re-installed.

    1995 Suzuki Sidekick Tinker Toy

I had a 93 automatic. I never once even considered getting bigger tires as the engine was so weak to begin with. It would plow pretty easily through 10 inches of heavy wet snow, but any more would stop it. Got 29 miles per gallon pretty consistently. Had zero problems with it for the two...

    Stoopid Chevy Transfer Cases!

$1800 for tcase, actuator and driveshaft? Do they not have junkyards near you? Seems like $250 would have had you back on the road.

    Tire help

I just put Kenda K270's on my wr250f. I think they are great on a light bike. However, I probably would not run them on anything heavier or more powerful. They are kinda flexible and soft feeling. Great traction in dirt and rocks. Probably pack up in mud.

    Looking for some suggestions, ideas

You may be thinking of a shackle reversal in the rear. You can buy some brackets that will allow you to run your rear spring shackles in compression instead of in tension. Lifts a bit, might need to use shims to get a correct pinion angle, but keeps the stock ride.

Cooper AT3 vs. Falken Wildpeak vs. BFG AT KO

Another data point for those looking for tires. I ran the Rubicon trail this weekend. In to Buck Island Lake and back to Loon Lake twice. First off, I used to run the trail pretty regularly back in the early to mid 90's through about 2005. Probably done it 20-30 times in various vehicles...

Howling from rear end, increases with speed. Pinion bearing?

I would think you are on the right track with pinion bearing. as far as gearing goes, my 8.1 has 4.10's with 33's. I tow 10k a lot and it is great. If I did not tow much, I would rather have 3.73 gears. The 8.1 has so much grunt, I think you will be fine 3.73 and 35's. If you find that...

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

Dave certainly would not recommend getting a 275k mile Honda accord. But neither would he recommend the other end of the automotive spectrum. Lots of perfectly reliable vehicles for $4-5K range. But you can buy whatever you want. Just my opinion thrown out to you on a forum! If you decide...

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

After you shared your financial situation, I cannot recommend that you buy either of your choices. Not trying to rain on your parade, but making $40k a year does not put you into a $30k truck, unless you like living with financial stress! Dave Ramsay...
