Haven't been in here in over a year! Been busy, moved to a new place, and got tied up with a new project car. Finally made a change to the Tacoma, and I guess I got back in the mood and started poking around ExPo again. Anyway, Ive been hunting for a tonneau cover for the last couple of...

    2001 Toyota Tacoma/ Adventure Vehicle

Cut some rubber sheet into squares to use as insulators for the service body. You can usually find pieces of rubber at most hardware stores, or use a mudflap. Stainless steel bolts, or nickel/copper anti-seize will keep the corrosion to a minimum. I have a 2001 reg cab Tacoma as well. After...

Box Rocket '03 DC Tacoma Build

I'm certainly no purist, but I don't care much for fiberglass fenders. They usually look goofy, don't fit worth a damn, and will shatter when they come in contact with a rock. I understand the benefit for clearance though, but I think a well trimmed fender usually looks better and most glass...

Box Rocket '03 DC Tacoma Build

Try a sign or plastics supply shop for kydex. It's great stuff, but will probably need to be ordered and isn't cheap for a sheet. ABS plastic will be in stock at pretty much any sign or plastic supply shop, it's cheap, flexible enough to shape yet rigid enough to withstand rocks and debris...

Real world MPG of 2.7L 4x4 5spd Tacomas?

Wow, I wish my mileage is what it was a year ago. Since then the addition of 33" tires, bumpers, sliders, recovery gear, tools, etc. my mileage has dropped substantially since I posted that reply. I'm now getting an average of 18.3mpg per tank, this is a 50/50 split between city and highway...

1st gen Taco regular cab feeling...."darty"

Needs an alignment first, possibly ball joints or tie rod ends. The steering rack bushings are notorious for wearing out and causing sloppy steering. The steering racks are also known for having issues. New shocks will help a lot. I have an '01 reg cab 4x4, bought it with 168k. At 177k when I...

Pronghorn Tacoma bumper: This looks interesting!

Gross. This reminds me of erector sets. Youd spend hours building a functional crane or something but in the end it always looked like crap. I think I like it more than the ARB bumper, but that doesnt say much.

Trail gear vs All Pro front/rear bumpers and sliders.

I plan to add a kick out to my sliders because I do bash them and use them to pivot Sent from my N8000_USA_Cricket using Tapatalk

Trail gear vs All Pro front/rear bumpers and sliders.

I went with an All Pro baja front bumper. Bought it used from a guy who went with their Apex plate bumper. After bashing the stock front bumper on rocks I wanted something with more clearance. I didn't want a plate bumper because my truck is a reg cab and I feel the plate bumpers are too bulky...

Little update on my Tacoma... Finished modifying my Leer camper shell. It was for a Ranger and didn't fit the cab profile, so I cut and re shaped the front corners, filled a hole in the roof, and made a recess for the 3rd brake light to clear. Then I coated it in Rustoleum Bed Coating because...

Can my 01' Reg Cab 2.7L pull......

With my '01 Reg Cab 4x4 2.7 5spd, I pulled my tow dolly with my F250 strapped on it. A little slow, but the truck didn't really struggle with it except on a long uphill somewhat steep grade frontage road. Now slowing it down was the bigger concern for me. Even with the Tundra brake upgrade on my...

    DIY Sliders Help

I bought Trail Gear sliders for my '01 Tacoma off ebay from 4WP for $179 shipped. Mine's a reg cab, so they are the short 58" versions. I could have spent the $100 for tubing to build them myself, then spent the time bending, notching, and welding them up, but I realized my time was worth more...

    Cruiser guy with Tacoma questions

2001 Reg Cab Tacoma 3RZFE 4cyl 5-spd 4x4 with 265/75/16 AT's on steel wheels and 4.30 gears, I average 20mpg city/highway and get ~320 miles to a tank of fuel. I started running mid-grade fuel recently to cure a slight detonation, which seems to have helped the mpg a little bit.

Looking for a new to me Tacoma

Mines an '01 reg cab 4cyl, but I love it. Bulletproof and reliable. Capable of some pretty good offroading in stock form too. If you plan to use 4x4 often, opt for the TRD package with the elocker rear. Rusty frames and weak rear leads are a couple of the more common issues, but Toyota will...
