This is also a very good point. I did have to move debris from a trail this past weekend and I had a cheap harbor freight chain and a nice tow strap with me. I never even considered using my tow strap for fear of damaging it.

Thanks all for the advice. I found a source for 50' (25'x2) of chain, 4 hooks and 2 links for just under $110 shipped and decided to go with that. If someone comes up with a screaming deal on syn line I might still be interested, but would need to be a really good price.
