Belafonte Reboot....Ambulance to 4x4 Camper Conversion

In my opinion: The simple solution would be to track down some newer halogen fixtures - ebay, junk yard, etc that can accept one of those LED tail light conversion bulbs - either clear or amber. Then put clear lenses on the fixtures.

The only option then will be to charge by temperatures and pressures.

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

I wonder if someone just threw out the thermostat, and wired the blower to maximum speed? That's the kind of thing you might see with a volunteer ambulance service, or a VFD. It's not kosher, but sometimes a temporary repair can become a long term fix.

It sounds like you have a 2 compressor system.

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

In my opinion, you have to have a thermostat. Otherwise, the unit couldn't comply with the kkk-A-1822 standard. Do you have a conventional switch/relay system, or a touch panel system? Temperature control is part of a digital touch panel system, but a switch/relay system will have a separate...

Are you planning on using epoxy primer as a sealer? I usually fall back on an epoxy primer if I'm spraying over existing paint.

Medium Duty Ambulance FAQ (Freightliner, International, GMC, Chev)

If it's more than 15 years old, the Fire Chief's Association states that it should be only used for stand by or reserve. If they want $42,000, it's probably being sold as an operational, usable ambulance instead of a retired ambulance. Retired units usually run less than $25,000

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

All right! You did have cruise control after all! Excellent! As far as silicone, I agree that a urethane would do a better job. A bit more fiddling around, but they will be there forever.

When my son was driving my Freightliner back from Philadelphia, he'd covered about 300 miles, then commented that it would be nice if it had cruise control -- I told him that it did have cruise, but the switches were on the dash instead of on the steering wheel. He snorted, then flipped the...

Ambulance Camper/ Expedition Rig Conversion FAQ

My Medic Master - Freightliner uses standard Group 31 batteries, but it uses 4 of them. I'm thinking that an Emergency Vehicle battery is just a heavy duty battery, maybe with a longer warranty to help with sales. You need to have identical batteries, though.

It's a 2.6 gallon unit -- Dometic #301097402. 12.5" high, 15.25" deep, and 13" wide. $116 at Amazon. Because it will roll out on a fold out platform, my final height will be about 16".

The cab radio can be heard parked, and in town, but not worth a hoot on the highway. I've thought about installing a set of speakers on the rear of the cab so I can actually hear them. Headphones would work, but I don't think they'd be legal

Your FL dealer is fishing for some of your money. When I registered mine, I went to the gal who handles the dealership's FL warranty claims. She sent off one e mail, and I was in the system. If your closest FL dealer won't help, try another dealer. You can also bring your VIN to the parts...

That way, you could run the halogen and the leds with your Honda generator if you really needed light. The Rigid lights are nice - I may add some as well.

Lookin' good, Pat. You know, there's no reason why you can't keep the halogen scene lights. You can always install some surface mount led lighting for normal use

Ambulance Camper/ Expedition Rig Conversion FAQ

You might find a Whelen part number on the lens, but there should be a label on the rear of the fixture that will give you the light's model number. Remove the lens screws, remove the fixture screws, and the fixture csn be removed. Be careful installing lenses - some have a small drainage hole...

Thanks, Pat. This was a very low priority project, but I could squeeze it in between starting the sprinkler system, and staining the deck. After some more home projects, I can get going on more important projects.
