Pretty interesting TFL video about the Super/Mega Raptor builds

Mega raptor is based on F250, so total cost can be less than a standard Raptor.

Coaches/buses drive close to civilization and don't have to wait weeks or months to have a 2,5 x 2,5m windshield shipped into a jungle when you ********** it against a tree. Many armored vehicles have split windshield so only one piece needs to be changed when it breaks. One can always fit steel...

I believe the focus on front windshield is regarding the cost when it breaks from stone chips which will happen on dirt roads. A windshield from a series production truck will be much cheaper to replace then a large custom one-off windshield. In Australia many use stoneguards for their windshields.

Further discussion of tire protection chains for expedition work is an exercise in futility, as would anyone having put on truck tire chains, or tractor chains by themselves. Tire protection chains are several times heavier, will be slippery on rock, can not be used on paved roads, and can not...

From a couple of years back, all of a sudden every manufacturer of military vehicles had the Hutchinson Tire Saver Shield on their vehicles at exhibitions. I have not seen any other manufacturers, but as Hutchinson is marketing their system for school buses and trucks, buying a set should not be...

Forget about tire protection chains, they are way too heavy, you can not go fast with them, you will need a crew and special tools to mount them, and a trailer to drag them along! With the price of 14.00 and 16.00R20 tires, a set of Hutchinson Tire Protection Shields as noted in post #623 seems...

Don't forget to remove the plastic trays in the doorsteps. There is probably sand, mud and rust underneath. And fog lights are of no real use. You need some good driving lights. :)

Again, the spare swings out from underneath the camper. More detail of camper attachment:

Look closer. You don't need to remove the camper to hoist down the spare tire.

While looking at the U20 I came across this camper from Mondopickup in Italy. All pictures are from their page.

And now for something completely different

Got the trailer registered today. 726lbs, 330kg dry weight. Also picked up a huge 7.3x12.8ft, 220x385cm 1/2" piece of marine plywood that will be used as the subfloor for the camper. I will need to make a steel subframe for the floor to keep it rigid.

And now for something completely different

I'll be keeping the tank. All components will be interchangeable on the frame. Have been playing around in Sketchup to get some general ideas of what direction to go. Yes, I know the kitchen is very high off the ground, but then again it is also very close to the floor... The trailer is so...

And now for something completely different

Mark, the red tubes are supports for a deck. The trailer will be enclosed, with internal sitting height, not standing. The rear mounted kitchen will be usable from both outside and inside. And then todays progress: Have been working on the junction box from hell... Still missing a couple of...

And now for something completely different

I removed six bolts on each side, and cut two short welds on each side. The subframe then came right off the frame. The subframe was two 2"x5.5", 50x140mm box girders. The ride height changed considerably. The trailer can now be towed behind anything, except a 20 tonne truck.

And now for something completely different

And then the conversion begins As I choose not to sleep in the tank, it needs to be removed. First I jacked up the tank, and bolted on a couple of 4"x4"that fit on top of the rails. Then I added 2"x4" "skids". I needed all this to handle the tank myself as I lack proper lifting equipment here...

And now for something completely different

OK, time to get serious... Although a few of you obviously liked to sleep in a tank, I wouldn't. So here are the real plans for this trailer: The plan is to build a multi use trailer with four different and interchangeable uses. A water transport trailer for both summer and winter...

And now for something completely different

This is what I bought unseen at auction; a military 1000L, 265 gallon water trailer. Double walled insulated aluminum tank. Now, what can we do with this... Submarine hatch? Cramped quarters for one, 5ft (150cm) internal length. Nice bookshelf? Gasoline heater, and electric. Chimney...
