    Importing Routes/Creating Route on Ipad

Not really on topic as such, but I'd suggest keeping a paper map as well as electronic - in my experience (and I love satnavs) its amazing how often gadgets go belly up just when you REALLY need them!

I shall call him... "Mini Me" (2005 Jeep Liberty KJ)

Worth looking at this thread http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/14481-FlyingWen-s-2002-Jeep-Liberty-KJ/page7 for stuff Wil Kuhn did to their KJ. I can't recall if the LBJ has a grease nipple as standard; if so, it is worth making a little cut (dremel is your friend) into the Terraflex...

    Hummer Picture Thread

The only one which was half-way usable in England was the H3 - which although it looked massive, was not actually bigger than a Range Rover. The H1 and 2 were just too big for anything other than a main road! I had a test drive in an H3 and just couldn't stand the small windows! I wasn't wild on...

    German 98 Blazer build

Good luck with the new vehicle, and I hope you have a great time with it. It's a shame you're selling the Blazer after all the work you put into it - I've been following your developments with interest and envy - I am useless at making things!

    An Axe - Seriously?

You'll just have to build your fire away from the eyes of decent, Gransfors-wielding folk, and hang your head in shame whenever you go for wood:)

    An Axe - Seriously?

When out and about, I usually have a cased collapsible bow saw, and an axe (gransfors bruks SFA). The saw is way more efficient to actually cut wood up, but the axe is far quicker to clear brush/branches which are too heavy for a bushknife, or to trim down a log of side shoots.

    Purchase a Ural?

Trouble is, it doesn't quite look right without an MG42:)

    Considering an SLR

You'd have trouble nowadays(as we oldies say) finding a bad one. The only thing I'd advise (and I don't know if you've done this yet) is not just to go on the specs, but to actually pick one up and try it. It's the feel of the camera in your hand - whether Nikon, Canon, Pentax or whatever, that...

    2006 Jeep Liberty CRD

When I said 9.5l/100km - that's mixed highway/ back roads driving. When I've driven purely on a motorway - it works out to about 8.3l/100km - can be less depending partly on the fuel. The uberdiesels tend to give me a bit more, some supermarket fuels a bit less.

    2006 Jeep Liberty CRD

Like anything else - depends how you drive it:) I have a 2005 and for mixed driving - mostly highway/country roads and some short-range urban, I average about 9.5 litres per 100km - that's with an aftermarket (TJM alloy) bumper, full set of Skid Row skid plates and General Grabber AT2s...

    army tent opinion

From the camo pattern, I'd say it's French. Most French kit (if it's genuine ex-army)is well made and of good quality, but like most military tents of this size and material, it WILL be heavy, and intended to be erected by more than one person.

Discovery I/II bottle jacks good units?

They are good - but generally expensive - over here I've been quoted about£125 for one (new from the dealer). A better bet is to get a decent 4t aftermarket one, and (as suggested above) either get a piece of steel tube or a large socket to slip over the top and weld on a "U" piece. Tom...

    LR3 - LR4 Resources

I suspect that a part of the problem regarding the "loss" of the KISS principle referred to above, is that the VAST majority of these vehicles - even Defenders, aren't going to be used on expeditions. They get used for normal everyday stuff like shopping and taking children to school. Defenders...

    German 98 Blazer build

We get those tyres here(under the Simex brand) - what are they like on the road? Terrific work though mate - I only wish I had your skill, I'm rubbish at that sort of work! Regarding the jerrycans on the rear swing-out - can you lock them on? Looking forward to see how you develope it.

    Just...AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no doubt at all that this will be beautifully made and designed; equally I have no doubt that it will be horribly expensive!

    Iveco challenge for the Defender?

The price of civilian Defenders has always been ridiculously high for a utility vehicle; the main market for Defenders has always really been military/NGO/utility fleets(electricity suppliers etc who need to get to out-of-the-way places). It'll be interesting to see if the military will be...

What´s the problem with the Jeep

JPK - when I talked of the reliability of LR passing into folklore - it was meant to be tongue in cheek! There is the joke that 95% of all LRs ever built are still on the road - the other 5% made it back home! The good thing about the older LRs is that they are easy to fix; the bad thing is that...

What´s the problem with the Jeep

I don't think reliability (of LRs) has ever been an issue - that has passed into the realm of folklore! A friend used to go everywhere in his series 3 with a spare driveshaft and some other components and a full toolkit - it was often necessary to use them as well! As far as Jeep is concerned...
