Problems installing Swayaway torsion bar in flippac

FWIW This prompted me to take a look at the SAW bar that I bought and the original which still works well on mine built in '12. The ends of both the SAW and the original look identical. The crank lever fits snugly and seems to be perfectly on the SAW bar. Does your crank lever fit on the SAW...

Flippac lid crackling when I lie on it

Mine is a '12 and does this also - I think it is common when there is a point of pressure rather than more dispersed pressure. I wouldn't sit on the opened bed without a mattress to distribute the weight but I have never noticed any structural damage like cracks in the fiberglass.

My attempt at a Pop-up........It begins....

First of all what a great job! You built it like a tank compared to any commercially available product. Maybe a little structurally overbuilt but that is only my opinion. 13 years ago when I built a similar camper I ended up using steel but used a lot less of it in comparison and thinner wall...

My attempt at a Pop-up........It begins....

When I built mine I looked around but couldn't find extrusions like these (top and bottom strips) so i just used a large "D" shaped rubber seal on the top lid and a high quality rubber (not the usual foam) camper seal on the lower camper top edge. It has never leaked and the camper is now 13...

My attempt at a Pop-up........It begins....

Nice, the floor pack is the easiest part to build, I think I took two days to build it mostly to let glue dry. While I do have a joiner, when I built mine I didn't use it for any of the joints. For the flare out in the back of the camper I just put runners under the joints. 3/4" ACX for...

FlipPac 1977 Barr Industries Rebuild Project

Nice. Except for the probably low demand for specialty campers in general I'm kind of suprised that this wasn't the prefered platform for the flippac or even the newly marked flip to the back cap. Instead of having to deal with muliple truck bed dimensions probably three products could be...

    FLIPPACK CAMPERS

Received it today, I know nothing about torsion bars but it looks very high quality based on the finish which looks flawless. Thanks SAW for providing this product/service. maybe there would be some market for the actuating lever, I'm sure mine is around somewhere.

    FLIPPACK CAMPERS

Nice, maybe you should just take over making the flippacs entirely.

    Flippac torsion bar

They look like thin wall aluminum tube with bimini top hardware. I did buy some of the same type fittings from Amazon a couple years ago in case mine broke, the aluminum tube you should be able to get at a hardware or Home Depot.

    FLIPPACK CAMPERS

Thanks for the information. Regarding the "rate" of the OEM bar, I think FRP or their torsion bar supplier at least had that part right.

    FLIPPACK CAMPERS

Free shipping, no tax, easy order, improved product, reputable company, no BS - hallelujah indeed. I ordered one and when I get it I will probably replace the original and keep the OEM as a spare.

    FLIPPACK CAMPERS

I also would be interested in having a spare (depending on price)

    Promaster Weekender Build

That looks excellent, great job. Did you install the windows yourself and where did you get them?

    AT Tacoma Habitat: Official Thread

If I was in the market for a new flippac type (already have one) cap today I would almost certainly pay the extra money and get the AT version. The flippac is a great idea and works great but has too many commonly reported issues to choose a flippac over the AT (I'm not talking about the old...

Thoughts on Ram ProMaster FWD Vans?

If I get serious about a Promaster I'll probably try to rent one for a week and see if I like it or not. Regarding E series vans, I had a E150 conversion bought new in 1990. I enjoyed it but never want another, the engine hump encroached badly, it handled like a barge (the conversion was...

Thoughts on Ram ProMaster FWD Vans?

The low ground clearance is unfortunate but probably about the same as standard volkswagen westfalia. The Sprinter 4x4 sounds great, just too expensive. I haven't had a low ground clearance vehicle in years, the last one I had was a short wheelbase Dodge Caravan FWD that I never got stuck with...

2012 Flippac for Ford Superduty $3,500 SW Washington

It isn't on the truck now but I think I have pictures of it on the truck and off in a file somewhere that I will post. Sorry if the new price I mentioned wasn't accurate, it was just what I read on some posts in this forum. Maybe they were referring to purchased from a re-seller instead of...

2012 Flippac for Ford Superduty $3,500 SW Washington

My flippac is designed for newer Superduty short bed trucks and probably wouldn't be good fit for other brands (my truck is an '04). It has sliding side windows and front slider, the tent and SLO fly have been treated with 303 fabric guard (read about it). I read that the price of flippac has...
