1999 Mitsubishi Montero with Rear Locker and only 159k miles, and has been fully serviced and 4.90 gears added

I'm selling my 1999 Mitsubishi Montero with 159K miles that has been fully serviced, upgraded, and made road/trail worthy. This is a winter package Montero with rear locker and heated seats/mirrors. No expense has been spared in getting this vehicle ready to drive. Cosmetics came second. This...

Finally got myself a Gen 2.5, now, major maintenance update time.

Nope, edited. Not going to start a pissing match. I have no problem sharing details, project information, specs, etc. But my money is my business, just how I was raised. And seeing as there wasn't an Ex-po forum when I last had a Montero, yeah I'm coming in blank slate. But on other forums...

That's also my business, not yours. Thanks. I'm all for helping, and those in the forums I'm members of know that, but I choose my level of obligation.

Thanks Zoomaster, someone else also turned me to that page. Good info for sure, especially the bushings. Thanks for sharing it. Definitely helped me source some parts.

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Thanks. My plan is to swap my battery terminal to Mil Spec terminals for easier mounting of cables. Then I'm going to take my primary alternator power lead and run to the battery. Then run a single fused 2 or 4 gauge line directly from alternator to battery for clean power supply and charging...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Hey man, I just went through your whole thread. Nice work on the Montero. I'm really interested in your wiring setup. Primarily your main harness wiring and breaker that you added. I'm planning on adding a higher amperage alternator and want to streamline the power supply. I normally tie the...

Finally got myself a Gen 2.5, now, major maintenance update time.

Picked up a 99 a week ago. In great shape for the most part. 155k miles, lived in TN all it's life, no rust, runs pretty good, and the PO did a Timing belt, WP, tensioner, Cam seals, valve cover gaskets right before he sold it. See the receipts for work below. Can't verify if they are OEM parts...

Sierra Nevada Challenge 2018 *NOW with 20% more pictures!*

What tire pressure were you guys running for the trail. I see only a few beadlocks in the group. Great write-up! And even better pictures. I hope to do the RT in one of my rigs sometime soon.

Here's why a mitsubishi montero is the best SUV to buy right now

The reality for these old girls is that they will become the way of the resto-mod. Which I'm okay with. Classic lines, function, fit and feel, but with modern electronics, drivelines, etc. I hope to pick up a Gen 2.5 soon, and once I have one I can keep close to original, I'll be on the hunt for...

oil residue from AC air vent

I'd be more worried about how oil is getting into the coolant system. Because that means coolant is getting into the oil system, meaning potential engine failure. New World - Check your oil. Is it milky or chocolate milk colored? Depending on the age it should be fresh clear oil (if just...

Gen 2.5 Heater Core Replacement - Tips, threads, pictures, etc

Yeah, I've read about that as well. Thanks. Where did you put the anti squeak and noico? Everywhere? LOL Do they still sell OEM heater cores for this Gen? (Nevermind, found them on the OEM Mitsubishi parts page, dang them 'spensive!)

Gen 2.5 Heater Core Replacement - Tips, threads, pictures, etc

Airbox, you mentioned in your message you had a hard time sourcing a heater core. I thought I saw someone had gotten a new one (been searching threads so much I can't remember). Where are people getting their heater cores?

Sweet, sounds like you've been around the bend before, so I'll shut up. :D

    The old 1999 build thread

For TRE's for that thing I'd go with common 1-tons. Easy to find and replace for low cost. They are sturdy as hell. I ran 1-ton TRE's on my crawler for about 10+ years of brutal abuse before I changed them. Depending on your setup, you may like HEIMS, but they are expensive for good ones with...

    The old 1999 build thread

Also, I don't know what your plan is for steering geometry, but keep an eye out for 10-bolt axles that have dual flat tops. You can then run high steering with a knuckle change. Knowing my axle will hit before my tie rod is very comforting.
