choosing a basic Jeep in 2015

Picked up my 14 JK in July. I got a Willy's with AC, Auto,EVIC, hard top and not much else. I didn't order it but it was close enough. Glad I got the auto. I ended up buying it because I had spent months looking for a used LJ and for about $6k more, I got a brand new rig with warranty. To me...

What Do You Dislike About Your JK

Really happy with mine...it's a better rig than I thought it would be. No leaks, headlights seem ok to me, power is fine, MPG's are decent...I could go on. I have plans for it but it will be a slow build. - I'd like to see a different color interior. Black is tough to keep clean. - I...

    JKUR with 2.5" and 33's

Great responses. Exactly what I want to do to the Willy.

Ford Explorer Overland Vehicle upgrade ideas???

I've slept in mine too! I really liked it and the quick lifts and 265's were a perfect match. I got next to no settling in two years of use. The bigger tires actually got the speedo to read correctly as it was a little over optimistic on miles I found out. Bad thing was then I started getting...

    Lets talk about gas storage

Precision Powder - I'm in the same boat as you. I've got a smaller tank (2door JK) and would like at least 6 more gallons to carry with me. Based on the few trips I've taken off road so far, I could easily use that extra 6 gallons especially over a weekend or more. I'm not sure why the...

Ford Explorer Overland Vehicle upgrade ideas???

I had an 05 Explorer. It's a fine rig for modest offroad use. Turns tight and with the 4wd system it goes where you point it (mostly). I added rancho quick lift struts, bought them during the "shocktober" sale and saved $240. Buy 3 get one free basically. I choose to go this route vs a...

Can anyone recommend a decent gps for off road travel in the USA?

FWIW - I've used a simple Garmin 1300 and it has all of the forest service/blm roads mapped that I've been on. My issue is it's hard to look ahead and figure out how to get someplace from where you are. I've got a Garmin eTrex 30 with the topo maps but it's simply too small. Great for...

    Willys Wheeler VS Rubicon

I just picked up a JKWW a few weeks ago. A Rubi would be great but the reality for me was it wasn't needed for what I want to do and not worth the extra money. Mine is pretty basic and was a good deal for what I got. Very happy with it.

The "What Did You Do To Your Pop-Up Truck Camper Today?" Thread!!!

Over the weekend I removed the old stereo w/ cassette and the CD Changer. Neither worked. Discovered a huge space behind the panel so I'll be making a door and cutting out a hole in it to access the space. Also replaced the porch light with a LED bulb. Now I can leave the light on for hours...

How far did you travel to pick up your camper?

550 miles one way. I rarely buy new and had been looking for several months. I was willing to go 1000 miles for the right one. On my lunch break I was running errands and spotted a new FWC in the lot. The owner came out and I asked him some questions about it. When I mentioned I was...

is there a future for Windows tablets and phones

I'm a windows phone user and have had mine for a year. It works great and the camera is sweet. What is lacking is apps. Yes there are a crap load of apps and 95% of the "big" apps are there...like facebook, twitter, flightaware, etc. What is not there are the specialty apps like an app for...

Post picture of your GPS setup

I have a Nuvi that I use also and shows 98% of the roads even off pavement. My beef with it is that it's hard to zoom in and out when you want to take a look at whats around. That's where a tablet is great. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to use my Nexus7 and so far I still use...

    '94 Hallmark Ute (Re)build

Yep - you can cut AL with a table/skill saw. When I was moonlighting in a AL boat building shop, we cut sheets 1/4 to 3/8" sheets of 5086 with a skill saw. 6061 is a little harder so we used a bandsaw on that. Nice work!

    My Junk

Kowboy, It was nice meeting you and seeing your "junk" last Saturday on the trail near Moab (new silver Jeep Wrangler Unlimited you let pass). These innerwebs sure makes the world a much smaller place. When I saw you ahead of me I thought, "that rig looks familiar". I told the girlfriend...

Nice report. I used go there via jetboat too. Probably shorter and a little more fun. ;) Been a few years since I ran the river.

    "Skinny" tires on a Full-Size?

They are doing ok. I've got 17K miles on the them and I'd say the fronts are at 40%. I say ok because they are doing as well as any other tires I've had. Rears are probably 70% but I have always gone through 2 sets of fronts for a set of rears. Last set if tires were 235 Toyo M-55's and got...

Pop up versus hard side in full size truck.

I've also had both. Started with a 9.5 foot hardside. It was nice with all of its storage and amenities but at 4000lbs wet, going off the beating path wasn't going to happen...at least not where I wanted to go. Got rid of it, camped less, and when I did camp, I took a tent. Now that I...
