4x4 Class C Scotty Serro mobile office/home and adventure rig! Life on Road

Same here - love the new interior. First thing we did on our 4x4 diesel class c was switch out the gold hardware for stainless, which made a huge improvement. Wife wants to paint the cabinets and make new curtains - I'll show her this thread for inspiration. Sent from my Barnes & Noble Nook...

Broken steering...on the trail...40 miles from nearest town

Thanks! I may have overdone it a bit, lol. Got to spend a few hours with rubbing compound and wax taking out the Arizona pinstriping, and I took a chunk out of the bottom of my fiberglass rear bumper on a rocky drop-off. :sombrero:

    Oakland/Bigfoot 20' Class C 4x4

Concur. The interior is very similar to my 24' -- looks like most of the difference in overall length is realized in the kitchen and bathroom. I'd trade some interior space for less rear overhang (and less weight on my rear axle) in a heartbeat.

    The search begins.....

Nice find! I've been a vw nut since high school. We bought my teenage son a naturally aspirated mk2 jetta diesel a couple of years ago, well before he got his learner's permit. It's been a great father-son project. We're doing a custom Holset turbo setup --just mounted a big intercooler behind...

how do you like your camper appliances

FWIW, I did a bunch of research and ended up getting a Samlex SEC-1230UL charger to replace the stock charger/converter in my RV. The build quality is fantastic (I'd call it commercial-grade vice consumer-grade), and it met all my req'ts, including multi-stage charging and being able to charge...

    ATSMB Sportsmobile rentals first rental!

That's so weird -- I just saw a youtube of a Sportsmobile drifting through a hangar. :sombrero:

Broken steering...on the trail...40 miles from nearest town

Thanks, man. I just picked up a slightly used Yakima Holdup similar to this one, minus the Honda Element, lol: I'll mount it on the rear receiver on the highway, then maybe swap over to the front-mounted receiver off road so our bikes don't end up looking like powdered donuts. I've always...

Broken steering...on the trail...40 miles from nearest town

Yep, we talked about that afterwards. With our remaining stores, thankfully we were at least a week away from a bad situation turning into a survival situation. There was spotty cell service up there, so our first course of action would have been trying to establish comms with the outside...

San Rafael Swell - Canyonlands - Elephant Hill

We tried three different routes; turned around each time. Incidentally, the only really muddy section I saw was on FR 92 just north of Bears Ears. FR 88 alternated between dry sections and snowy ones, but I imagine the latter could turn to mud as the snow melts and more people drive on them...

It also has a slide-out, as you can see in the pics. Given the choice, I'd rather not have it -- it adds 800-900 pounds plus additional complexity, but it does make the living area pretty huge.

Broken steering...on the trail...40 miles from nearest town

Thanks for the kind words! In retrospect, it really was a great find. The original owner spec'd it well, though it was set up more for RV campgrounds and "bling factor" than serious overlanding. Here are a few specs: - 64-gal water capacity - 40-gal gray and black water tanks - front...

    4wd drive vs 2wd w/locker

One particular situation where 4wd is almost essential is a loose or slippery off-camber trail with a big rut or ditch on the downhill edge. With 2wd, it's really tough to keep the front wheels from sliding downhill into the rut. That said, I believe a 2wd with a locker is a viable option for...

Broken steering...on the trail...40 miles from nearest town

Just got back from a six-day adventure in western CO and SE UT last week in our "new" rig, a 2003 Bigfoot 24SL 7.3L with SK 4wd conversion. We probably got a little more adventure than we had bargained for, lol...bonus points for performing a trail repair on a 14k-lb motorhome. Background...

San Rafael Swell - Canyonlands - Elephant Hill

I was on FR 88 the middle of last week, attempting to make our way north towards Beef Basin -- still some nasty snow and mud and a few fallen trees between South Elk Ridge and Bears Ears. FWIW...
