Nothing here on the R2 reveal?

It'll be cool to watch as they come to market, they are working towards cars with a lot of real world practicality, and clever user experience features. For example, on the R2 the rear side windows pop open and the rear hatch window rolls down. As someone who's had both features on many...

Impressions of the current Frontier Pro-4x?

Funny, seems like that's a recurring complaint on basically every vehicle with a comparable feature. I know I'm not a real fan of it having used it in Sprinters.

    fake patrol QX56 build

I trimmed a little of the flare/splash guard at the rear of the front fender, and used a heat gun to smooth out some high spots on the fronts of the wheel liner. Thats it. I think sticking with an 11.5" wide tire really helped here. If I could do it over, I probably would have gone with an 18"...

Looking for recommendations on a family hauler/tow rig/occasional camp vehicle

Nissan Armada based platform will do all of that as well, and is quite a bit more modern driving than something on the GMT800 platform. My dad has an 02 2500HD with an 8.1; it's been meticulously maintained, but it's still starting to show it's age with more and more nickel and dime stuff...

Demand for the ARB rear locker of the 2nd Gen Armada

Personally, I wouldn't base it around the 2.9 ratio setup. With 35s, I'd much rather be setup with a 3.35 ratio diff if going through the hassle to add an ARB. I don't find 7th gear all that usable, especially when towing currently.

    fake patrol QX56 build

Nope, I bought a 96 Ford Bronco instead and I'm restoring it currently. I'm actually debating selling the QX now because the Bronco will do a lot of the same things when done, but appeals to my inner 18 year old (had one from high school through college before I finally rolled it beyond repair).

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

BMW Turbo and 'reliability' do not typically occupy the same paragraph in a positive manner. I know several people who make a great living patching them back together, and everyone I know who's owned one, stopped at one (and I'm not even counting my personal experience with a Mini Cooper since...

Patrol Y62/Infinity QX 80 vs Patrol vs Y61

The Y62 world spec differentials are on par with a Y61 in terms of spline count and ring gear diameter; front is a little smaller. CVs aren't the strongest, but they are easy to change (I changed a rear without even removing the wheel or jacking the vehicle up). The fully independent suspension...

Zee Other German Overlander ML320 CDI

These are a really cool platform IMO. I have a W163 V8 and it's surprisingly competent at everything it does.

    Any 2004-08 F150 5.4L's around?

I think you kinda answered your own question... I had an 04, it was a nice truck but not the most reliable 300hp powertrain, never seemed to be embraced from a 'build' perspective. I miss it cause it was a great daily, but also reckoned with the fact that even after you squeeze some extra HP...

After 8 years in a full size, moving back to a mid-size - Recommendations?

2011 QX56 owner here...I broke a couple rules buying ours: 1st model year vehicle, obvious signs of neglect and low speed crash damage, 150k+ on it. It was barely drivable when I bought it, and a month later I drove from CA all the way to the San Juans in the middle of a heat wave...didn't skip...

What total mileage would you be comfortable with on a QX56/QX80/Y62 Armada?

I am 6'2". Have spent countless hours in Rams, Sprinters, etc and other large full-size vehicles. The Armada/QX is honestly one of the most comfortable vehicles I have ever sat in. Have spent numerous 10+ hour days in the drivers seat, with minimal fatigue.

What total mileage would you be comfortable with on a QX56/QX80/Y62 Armada?

172k and counting on my QX. It's the lowest mileage vehicle I own, by a long shot (bought at 150k in fairly rough shape). I prefer to buy the cheapest used cars possible (within reason) knowing full well they'll get shocks, brakes, tires, and the common gremlins per model fixed when I own them...

    fake patrol QX56 build

Ironically, it gets the same, or better mileage than our GX on 32s did doing essentially the same driving, and I've been running regular grade in the QX vs the GX. The 2wd mode, direct injection, and way higher output (aka working less) all add up. Toyota sure has a knack for making impressively...

    fake patrol QX56 build

Following the US based FB groups for Armadas, and the Aussie FB Groups for Y62s will explain it all...unfortunately. All Nissan really has to do is a simple suspension upgrade, and parts bin a Titan diff and some lower ratios in (that's gonna be my next big move). My wife cares 0 about...

New Tacoma vs Colorado vs Ranger

This is the best advice. I wanted to love the 3rd gen Taco when they were released. First time I sat in a customers I realized I could never own one because the seating position, roof height etc drove me crazy.

    2021 Titan XD Pro-4X w/ Ovrlnd Camper

The VK56VD + 7-speed is a rad setup. It's got a lot more personality than the other brands combo IMO, and responds nicely to spirited driving. I was shopping Coyote + 6-speed F150's recently, and came back disappointed and decided I'll just keep my QX56.

    Fireroad exploring vehicle ?

W163 Mercedes ML500, it's by far the worst choice mentioned but they are surprisingly capable, comically cheap and according to every import repair shop running friend/acquaintance of mine (3 of them), they all have described it as the vehicle that is 'inexplicably hard to kill'. Mine fit 32"...
