00 DII and front brakes

All in need of help and maybe suggestions on changing the front pads and rotors. I have changed the pads and rotors on a few vehicles including a Classic LWB but not a DII. Is there anything special that need to be done, or is it pretty straight forward? Any special prepping or the pads or rotors? Thanks for the help and info.

It's really easy, but it's not simply a #4 phillips rather an impact driver. Chances are if you just use a screwdriver you'll strip it and have to drill it out. Depending on your mileage you might want to rebuild the caliper pin assembly or at least pull, clean, and grease. I also put some antisqueal on the back of the pads; Mercedes Benz Brakenpaste is what I use, but others will be fine.

If you've done brakes before this will be a walk in the park.

Is the #4 for the caliper retaining screw? If it's stuck, just drill it out and don't worry about it. It's only for holding the assembly together in the plant.

Yep, and the impact bit is the way to go really. You can get them at most auto parts stores.

#4 impact screw driver bit. I should have clarified that.

However you can use a flat screwdriver bit. Just hammer it in and impact it off. My screws were all fscked up by the dealer and I had to improvise. Hammer and a large flat screwdrier bit worked well.

I rebuilt my front calipers, seals, pistons, guide pins and also changed to ss lines.

No need for all that if yours aren't sticking or you don't need the extra reassurance

Thanks for all the great insight and info, but do you all have a way to break in the pads. I have heard of problems with off gassing and it causing problems with making the pads less efficient.

Install all the parts and get on the freeway at night. Drive at 40mph, while keeping your foot on the pedal gently depress the brake pedal. Maintain 40mph with the brake engaged slightly. Hold for 30 seconds.

Disengage brake, drive for 1 minute to cool down brakes, reengage brakes for 1min, let cool for 2 min.

After cooling for 2 min, take truck up to 60mph, engage brakes for 1 minute while keeping truck a 60mph. Let cool for 2 minutes. Redo 3 times.

On your way home do 3 hard brakes(but not slammed) from 25mph to 0mph allowing 2 minutes cool down between them.
