Has anyone removed their early 2000's Silverado/Suburban/Sierra/Yukon windshield cowl lately? Do you remember what it looked like under there?

I've had a mold/mildew issue that I think is from the cabin filter area but never felt water on the floor. My theory was just enough moisture was mixing with the filter dust to create a mold odor. So I lifted the cowl just like the guy in the video.
Whereas he had a plastic panel directly in front of the passenger seat, I had a sealed portion which looks like it was done with a heavy duty tape, it looked OEM to me though. However, I had a similar opening to the one he showed in the MIDDLE, where there was a gasket but no panel. Here's a pic with a 1x pointing to the opening and then a closer shot:
