'01 Suburban water leak - missing cowl panel?

Has anyone removed their early 2000's Silverado/Suburban/Sierra/Yukon windshield cowl lately? Do you remember what it looked like under there?

I had found a YouTube of a guy with an 05 GMC Sierra that had a leak on the passenger side floor board. http://youtu.be/Jmd2ellmzLc

I've had a mold/mildew issue that I think is from the cabin filter area but never felt water on the floor. My theory was just enough moisture was mixing with the filter dust to create a mold odor. So I lifted the cowl just like the guy in the video.

Whereas he had a plastic panel directly in front of the passenger seat, I had a sealed portion which looks like it was done with a heavy duty tape, it looked OEM to me though. However, I had a similar opening to the one he showed in the MIDDLE, where there was a gasket but no panel. Here's a pic with a 1x pointing to the opening and then a closer shot:

Aw man, when I do an image code for the pics they come out HUGE and don't show properly so I tried the other posting method and they went in the wrong order.

Anyway, if anyone could help me confirm what SHOULD be under that cowl in terms of panels I'd appreciate it.

And if it seems off topic a little, this was something I got distracted with as I was working on mounting my new awning for which I hope to have pics tomorrow on my homemade roof rack!:wings:

You shouldn't be getting water to the inside through the cowl unless the drain is plugged/clogged, which will result in even the A/C causing water to run inside if you live where it's humid. Look near the frame/firewall, down low for the drain. Use some wire and clean it out. You may be able to vacuum junk out of the cowl through the opening you pictured if there's any in there.

Usually, it'll be full of pine needles and tree seeds...
