I bought this at the end of March from a fellow Montero enthusiast with the intent of keeping it long term, but sometimes life happens, and now I unexpectedly, and unfortunately need to sell this after only 2 months of ownership. My goal was to get it 100% reliable first, then start the moding to build this up into our family overland rig. Aside from a couple small things (mentioned in the “bad” section below) the reliability is taken care of, so the new owner can jump right into mods and have a very solid rig that will go another 100k+ miles.
The following maintenance at 106,000 miles:
-Aisin water pump
-OEM tensioner
-Mitsuboshi timing belt
-Cam seals
-Valve cover gaskets
-Full synthetic oil change and mobil 1 filter
-Radiator flush
-New thermostat
-New OEM crank bolt/washer
-NGK Laser spark plugs
-Denso plug wires
-OEM cam position sensor
-OEM crank position sensor
-Full transmission flush with Aisin SP3
-Factory spec full synthetic oil in front and rear diffs
-Factory spec full synthetic oil in transfer case
-Centric Premium front brake rotors
-PowerStop Z23 Evolution Sport front brake pads
-Brake fluid flush
-Gutted the intake butterflys; all butterflys as well as shaft removed, intake was tapped and a bolt seals up where the vacuum actuator used to connect.
-Rusted rear A/C lines removed and replaced with rubber lines
-Installed fold-down table on rear swing gate
-Resoldered R10 and R12 resistors for fuel and temp gauges
The Bad:
-Front seat leather is worn/cracked/torn in some areas (see photos).
-4H, 4L, 4LLC all work perfectly, but the diff light flashes in 2H. I just leave it in 4H, but I believe a new solenoid (the one located under the air box) is needed to fix the issue.
Extras:
-Rear brakes are at about 60%, but I purchased Centric Premium rotors and PowerStop pads for these as well, they will be included with the sale.
-Left and right power steering boots are torn, but I am including new boots for you to install.
-Factory subwoofer is blown, but I am including a new Polk Audio DB842SVC sub, I just haven't had time to install it. I am also including a Metra speaker connector plug to make the install plug and play without needing to cut the factory wiring.
-I’ll include a couple extra un-opened quarts of Aisin SP3.
Other:
-Its has a Kenwood touch screen head unit that works great. CD/USB/Bluetooth. No NAV, but it does have outputs for a backup camera, so adding one would be very simple.
