05 tacoma access cab

so i've been a long time lurker and i finally decided to post. i traded in my suzuki sx4 hatch awd (with a standard) for the truck i've wanted for the last 5 years a couple weeks ago and love having it. it's an 05 tacoma access cab with the 4cylinder and a standard. its set up for the most part how i want it right now(except for the nerf bars and push bar... i hate those) but i do plan on putting a shell on it later on down the line and maybe a diesel swap once i move to england.

no need to prove these trucks capabilities to yall, but this hill was unbelievable and i put it into 4 low and it crawled up it. the trailer in the backround is sitting on level ground.

baptism by rock... first time taking it out, had a half buried piece of concrete get pushind into the door. the goofy nerf bars caught the brunt of it, but it did put those 3 scratches in it. oh well, it is a truck!

its got 96xxx miles on it now, but i know it'll run forever

got my pep-boys-special roof rack tested out with my kayak just to make sure it works. i'm surprised with the quality for price. its pretty sturdy and holds the weight well. it needs some holes drilled closer to the ends to bring it closer to the edges of the roof, as well as to cover the tab that the strap goes through. the edges on them are rough enough to scratch the roof. later on down the line i'll probably get some thick walled aluminum for it so it'll be a bit heavier duty than the cheap conduit style tubes.

sorry for the crappy phone pic, i forgot the camera at home

found out today that my buddies trd prerunner may be getting totalled after it had essentially been stolen by his roommate and wrecked. if so i'm gonna try to get ahold of his locker, but i don't know if that'll end up happening

just wondering, how many leaves should be in the spring packs? the clips fore and aft of the axle that hold the leaves together seem to have space in them like there was one removed.

Congrats on the new truck! I like how the 4-cyl trucks look with the black fenders and bumpers, wish I could've gotten mine that way.

More info/pics on the rack? Very intrigued, I'd like to get one for my access cab.

As for the leaf packs, they were 3 from the factory if I remember right. They're way too soft and Toyota actually issued a TSB waaaayy after they should have (probably as a sneaky under-handed cost saving measure) to upgrade them to the same packs that the Canadian trucks had all along, but they'll only do it for free if you're still under bumper to bumper warranty. I wrote several letters and a few phone calls to Toyota USA and got no where, as I essentially had exceeded my warranty in a year.

i like the overall ride quality of the truck, i had just been wondering. If anything, I would like a real front end setup as opposed to the coil spacer.

the pedistals are probably the best part about these racks... hard sturdy plastic with rubber feet. i plan on getting higher quality straps and the metal strap holder things (chrome in the picture, dont know what they are called).

these are some clips i actually got on the side. the ones that came with it will work well enough for the back rack, but just don't cut it for the front one. these ones dont grab the door jams themselves, they hang on over the weather strip and get between the headliner and the stripping. i'll take pics of this in the daylight. it does leak a little air, but its a very very miniscule amount. could be remedied with 2 pieces of rubber tape, one on each side facing each other. this seems to be a very sturdy mounting method

front rack needs new holes drilled about 1/2" closer to the edge so that the pedistals sit closer to the edge of the roof.

tube is kind of thin for my taste, but that can easily and cheaply be changed.

overall, for $28 for the racks themselves, and $7 for the new clips, not a bad deal. gets the job done. i wouldnt rely on this for heavy duty applications like a rtt, but for kayaks every now and again or surfboards, these are perfect

found out about a few more places to go trail running, but wont be heading there just yet. today, i'm gonna see how the car handles the highway. will let y'all know

Nice looking truck. Does the roof rack cause any harm when mounted with the clips or did you use a pad between the truck and the clips. I am looking for some sort of rack for our DC and access cab. I have gone under that bridge a few times with the inlaws. They live in Fort Myers. Is'nt there a beach for dogs there?

i didnt pt anything between them at first and they did rub a little bit, but i've since put some rubber tape under them. the thing that scratches more is the little silvery tab. i'm going to end up taping around it or something each time i use it, but other than that they work good. i don't really know where Ft Myers is, i've only lived here around a year. that is the bridge on us98 in panama city as you cross on to tyndall afb
