I am about to get my hands on a 2 gen Montero and would like to know what do I need to remove from the 2 gen brake system to fit my 1 gen montero.

Actually wouldn't waste time pulling crappy used stuff when you can buy new so cheap on Amazon or Rock Auto.

The only thing you could want used, would be the backing plate. And even then, you can use yours with a little trimming. Once you start messing with it, it's obvious what you need to trim.

Okay phl. What would one need to buy to upgrade? Calipers? Pads? Rotors? Anything else?

I'm Getting Around To It
Yes to the calipers, pads and rotors. Since you're in there, replace the bearings and races with Timken sets and replace the brake soft lines. All that will be about $200, give or take. Supplies needed are a can or two of brake spray cleaner, a bunch of paper towels, wheel bearing grease and new brake fluid. Tools aside from the ordinary are a wheel bearing lock nut tool, bearing race and seal driver (72 mm, IIRC) and a brass punch to knock out the old races. If you reuse the old bearings and races, make sure to A) install each of the four bearings back into the same place you removed them from and B) clean and repack them.

You get a much bigger diameter rotor and a superior caliper from this upgrade and will be able to tell the difference immediately. As always, bed in the brakes properly and if you don't know what that means, consult You Tube for a thousand different suggestions.

agree with JBfP.

'95 or '96 SR components.

Calipers - Loaded (includes brackets):
Left - RAYBESTOS RC10688
Right - RAYBESTOS RC10687

Rotors (2x):
BECK/ARNLEY 0832602

Hose - Lower (2x):
AUTOSPECIALTY / KELSEY-HAYES HB52051

Hose - Upper (2x):
AUTOSPECIALTY / KELSEY-HAYES HB52050

Bearing/Race sets (4x):
TIMKEN SET47

Seal (Hub) (2x):
SKF 22841 Mits number: MB526395

A bit of additional work - requires popping a ball-joint and tie-rod off the spindle - but you are in almost this deep anyways:

Bearing - Shaft needle (2x):
Koyo B-2012

Seal (Knuckle) (2x):
BECK/ARNLEY 0523448 Mits number: MB160850

Weird advice in this thread, we need more info, what kind of Gen 1? 4cyl or V6? Rear coil or leaf spring? the OP is getting a complete donor rig and you guys are saying not to scalp it?

There's a ton of good stuff on a gen 2 for you. Including the engine.

Take the entire front suspension.
Upper control arms
lower control arms
spindle and brakes complete
CV shafts.

It should take you one day to swap all of that over to your truck and you'll end up with a wider front stance and more travel, bigger brakes
Swap the rear axle in if your truck is a coil spung gen 1.

For the front end:

release the torsion bar tension, unhook the bars, unbolt the lower ball joint and drop lower control arm. Then unbolt the upper control arm from the frame, remove the CV lock clip and remove the spindle, brakes and upper control arm as one unit. Once that's all gone, remove the front CV shaft.
