My wife and I did a week long trip in Michigan's UP to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. We live in northern IL but are both originally from Michigan. It's has been many years since either of us visited the UP. We were totally blown away this time! We didn't do any real camping - wife not into that stuff, so I figured I'd compromise with her on that since it is our anniv trip.. :ylsmoke:

Working our way up to Silver City, MI, many stops along the way and picked up some quality Wisconsin cheese

We were lucky enough to see the northern lights clearly from the boat dock.. we were pretty much the only people there that night.

Kayaking along pictured rocks.. Awesome experience, too bad the wife got sea sick towards the end.

It's a manageable 8 hr drive for us to get into the UP.. so I'm looking forward to going back up during the winter season for some quality snow shoeing. This UP just might quench my thirst for going out west all the time, if just slightly.

Great trip photos! We went for the first time just three years ago hauling our 5th wheel. We left from Idaho and spent two months touring the Great Lakes region. About my favorite area was the UP. I got pasties at every opportunity. I was born in Michigan and my dad's family settled there in the 19th century so I have deep roots there but we moved away when I was 2-3 and I hadn't been back since.

We were there in fall so we got the bonus of spectacular colors (and rain!).

Thanks for bringing back some memories. BTW, did you go down the monster tube slide in Houghton?

Nah.. Houghton was really just a pass-by for us..

We did do Adventure Mine Tour. That was a lot of fun.

Did you hit up the Jampot store in Eagle River, MI? Awesome muffins there.

Incredible shots! I really love the northern lights pictures from Copper Harbor. That must have been a magical evening. That is my favorite town in the UP. I might have to live there someday! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks.. Yeah after putting up with biting bugs the previous two nights by the porkies, it was such a relieve to walk out at night by copper harbor and no bugs to bother you at all! I wanted to stay longer but had no time... the place we stayed at was right on the water.. Cool little cabins with a full kitchen.

Very cool photos. That is Wagner Falls in Munising. I get to live within walking distance of a half a dozen falls. Makes for enjoyable fall color photos.

Thanks for sharing. Glad you enjoyed it up here :)

I took a motorcycle trip around Lake Michigan last August, my only regret was that I couldn't spend more time on the UP, and you are not helping by posting these pictures! Beautiful country up there, might have to plan another trip for the near future. Thanks for sharing.
