Harbor Freight Tongue Boxes

Does anyone have the true measurements for the Harbor Freight 2 3/4 and 2 1/4 cubic feet tongue boxes? I have a limited amount of space on the tongue of my trailer and I'm not sure if I have converted the measurements the website provides to the actual size.

The measurements I have are as follows:

2 3/4 Cubic Feet

Height: 16 in
Length: 14 1/4 in
Width: 34 1/8 in

2 1/4 Cubic Feet

Height: 12 1/8 in
Length: 12 in
Width: 35 in

When I measure this out on cardboard for mockup it just doesn’t seem right to me. I not sure which box to get because the tongue width area is limited to 26 in from frame rail to frame rail in the back and about 12 inches in the front.

Thanks for any help

The two boxes are made from very different gauge steel, that might also figure into your decision. The 2 1/4 cubic foot box is made from very thin steel, the 2 3/4 cu. ft. box is made from much thicker steel. Worth a trip to HF to check them out in person.

^^^what he said^^^

I pulled the trailer to HF....a 15-minute trip...and they let me carry both boxes out to the trailer to see which one fit.

If you can swing the bigger one it is a much better deal. Really fits well on my m101 tongue. Now to get it mounted.... back to back the width is almost Identical. Height is probably the biggest factor in the size difference, although the bigger one is a bit "longer" on the tongue.

Much better lock/latch system too.

Oh, and wait for the 20% or 25% super coupons. They are eligible.

Make sure you seal the holes on the bottom or rainy weather will get it all wet. From the top it is sealed rather well. I had to also take the gas spring off as it didn't open large enough to get bigger things in.
