Expedition Sidecar

There've been some threads about this but has anyone here built up an expedition sidecar rig? Don't know if my Ural is up to it, though a lot of folks flog Royal Enfields (had one, too) over much hostile terrain. I'd be interested in the discussion ....

Sorry big picture...

Google off road sidecar racing...that is where I would start looking for ideas.

Adventure sidecar....

I am sure you must know of the famous "Pluto" and his many year around the world adventure:

And Sauer sidecars who build serious RTW rigs:

<http://www.sauer-sidecar.de/kontakt_en.html>

And Hubert Kriegel's page:

<http://www.thetimelessride.com/index.htm>

And Claude Stanley who makes some mean machines for Adv. travel:

Have fun...Brian in NM

This is mine but it has only been in the U.S. of A. , Canada and Mexico.

Hey, that wasn't by chance your rig on 6th, just east of I-10...south side of the road, parked in front what ever old warehouse is there....Wed or Thurs night? I was going to stop and drop off a copy of the Overland Journal...but I realized I didn't have an extra copy with me....

My friend Ara, aka Beemer Chef, and his best bud Spirit are traveling North America in their 1100GS hack. He regularly posts here in 'Current Expeditions' or whatever it's called...you ought to check out his thread and blog.

There is a small chopper shop here in town that has a Ural hack out front complete with dummy machine gun. Too cool.

Isn't he actually traveling in an RV, pulling his sidecar rig on a trailer and riding around when he stops....At least that is the impression I have gotten...

An Ural is completely up to the task.

I'm a n00b, still checking out this website, so I don't know if it qualifies as an "Expedition" (I think it does), but there's a guy who has ridden his Ural from Oregon to Tierra del Fuego, and from Oregon to Prudhoe Bay, and someone (maybe someone different?) that rode their Ural across Canada...and of course, Carla King who rode a brand-new 1994 Ural around the Countries of US and Canada (with quite a few problems along the way...).

I'll be taking my new '07 Ural GearUp on a 2000-2300 mile trip through the Yukon, and into Alaska, this summer.

I don't think BeemerChef does that, I could be wrong, but he and Spirit are sidecar ridin' fools!!!

IIRC, Ara does trailer his bike behind a older ford pickup with a slide in camper on the back.

Well that's kind of a bummer then...here I thought he was putting all those miles on the hack...

Spicy,

After reading Cob's round America Ural Tour recount over on ADVRider... I would love to hear about your experiences through Alaska and the Yukon on your Ural. Also, anybody have any info on that guy who went from Oregon to Tierra Del Fuego on his?

Sure thing!

I've got 2 more 1000+ mile Yukon and Alaska trips planned for this June... but for now, here's the ride report from my Arctic Circle trip last June.
