Fuso SRW options

srw ?

What is taking you to the 20s instead of the 19.5s?

Rickson has a nice video of their build process on their website.

Hi all
I plan on going with the 10.5 20 (37" tall) mpt 81's. the 12.5 (40 " tall) will be to tall and without major mods just wont fit. As far as opting for 16" or 17" tire availability they just are too close to the max load rating for my liking for traveling in the backcountry. I've put 60k plus miles traveling on a set of yokohama 303 and the toyo 608 285/70 19.5's, these both have been great tires and worked very well with the dual purpose use I put them thru. I would recommend either to everyone. For those who don't know me I used my truck for hauling for my general store and for my removable custom camper. I am know retiring from the store and think I don't need the overly rated tires for just the camper. Both the tires above are pretty much bullet prove but very high rated tires making for a very hard ride off road and on especially on washboard. Airing these tires down has pretty much no affect. I ran the mpt 81's on my previous unimog camper and liked the way they performed on and off road. the difference will be going to the 10.5 vs the 12.5 I had on the unimog, the 10.5 has a much lower rating, but I think it will be enough, the tires are very tough and will perform aired down much better, my hope at least.
Sadly the tire selection for the 19.5 isn't there. although I found what looked like a awesome off road tire from Firematic B.R.A.T, a 19.5 custom very rugged firefighting truck Irok design,I would need new wider rim's as well. That alone would be OK but I have been unsuccessful in being able to buy direct from them or find a tire dealer that can get them this last year. They may only be available for firefighting trucks.
It will take awhile for Rickson to find the mecedes wheel centers, in the mean time I am certainly interested in hearing what other finds people have found.

Cheers lehel

You can get Stazworks 5 ton 20's, those wheels are pretty serious.

- HD 20s are re-centered military 20x10 2piece bolt together wheels. These are 10,000 lbs rated wheels and weigh 150 lbs each. These are often referred to as HEMMIT wheels.

- 20x10 w/o inserts 300$ ea.
Available powder coated for 75$ each

It looks like you can now buy the Interco Irok Tire in 16 ply, (19.5") direct from Firematic Here : http://firematic.com/fireshop/store1.cgi?p_id=INCIF806&xm=on&origin=www.bing.com/search?q=Firematic+B.R.A.T-and-FORM=IE8SRC for $625 each
(Other Interco IROK tire sizes here: http://www.intercotire.com/tires.php?id=6&g=1)
Their super single rims Here: http://firematic.com/fireshop/store1.cgi?p_id=RIK10B195&xm=on are $565.
Now if you could convince them to 'drill' them as 6 lug pattern, with a 6.50" hub centric center hole, you would be in like Flint. The 'stock' off-set (backspacing) looks like it might work.
If you need a 'fireman connection' to buy direct, let me know. My neighbor is a Fire Chief who is 'flexible', and we are pretty close to your location.

BTW- I believe the 6 lug Fuso rims are 6 x 8.75" (Rockwell) while Mercedes 6 lug (Unimog) are 6 x 205mm

So if your Fuso is close to the 14K GVW and your towing 2k lbs. which single rims would handle that load safely?

The ATW rims are rated for 6395 and you only need 5556. I don't have the specs but have been told that the Earthroamer's don't go that high. Trailworthy gets you to 4540. No idea about Rickson - they have yet to respond to my emails.

Hello

Oh that would be great on seeing if I could get those firematic tires. I have had little luck in getting responces from them. Awesome to see new pictures of the GXV fuso at the expo, sadly this year I couldn't make it. Anyone know what wheels and tires they were using ?

I spoke with David at Firematic and the tires are in stock and ready to go. They can get the wheels made with 6 x 8.75" pattern (or other custom pattern. . . large truck pattern in the range of the current Ford 10 x 225mm size) for a "little more" with a 4- 6 week delivery time. He is getting back to me on the stock offset (backspacing). They off a little bit more of a discount to fire departments, but not much since that is their 'normal' customer base.
Tires rated at 6400 lb each (Interco)
Wheels rated at 6400+ lb each (third party certified by Standard Testing Labs)

Interesting - this is very close to the ATW wheel. Same capacity, same diameter but slightly deeper so can take a slightly wider tire. Same ballpark pricing as well. I've updated the original post with their info, if anyone finds the backspacing let us know.

Firematic provided the following backspacing information for their wheels:
Backspacing for the front wheels are 9.5”
Backspacing for the rear wheels are 3.5”

http://firematic.com/fireshop/store1.cgi?p_id=RIK10B195&xm=on
So I would venture to guess that you could also order your Fuso backspacing between those two numbers when you are ordering your lug pattern.
I'm sure that they are running difference backspacing for the tracks to line up on 2005 and new Ford F450/550 trucks they modify.

the fuso studs are 6x8.75 (6 on 222.3mm), but i recall reading somewhere else here that someone had issues because fuso stud holes are 32mm (vs something much smaller on the rockwell pattern) and have large chamfers.
i bought 20x11" rims off a U1300 mog , to have re-centred for my 12.5R20 XZLs. i didnt measure the unimog stud pattern, but is is noticably smaller than the fuso one.

Correct, Fuso holes are 1.313" diameter. That is the normal 'budd' hole size for duel wheels. A lot of the rockcrawler 'Rockwell' wheels are drill with .75" holes since they are running non-budd wheels.

If 17 inch and over diameter wheels are run, clearance should be no problem. For 16 inch rims, below are the measurements from my front drum for inside wheel clearances
(YMMV and yes, I need to wirebrush and paint them so they are prettier.) :sombrero:

Hmm, I was thinking that it was 9.75" width rims but that can't be the case with that backspacing. Maybe 11.25"?

Oh you are the man

I had little luck in getting ahold of them this last year, clearly worth a try again ; ) I also mistakenly mentioned looking for unimog centers, when it was actually the unimog 20" outer rim that was waiting to be ordered for Rickson to do 20" wheels and they then built the centers.
Thanks again for your research, exciting stuff. Still wondering if anyone knows what the new GXV is running. That sure looks like a nice rig, i'm sorry I missed at the expo.

Hi lethel,
Did Rickson end up getting hold of mog rims for you? No-one in Australia could source 20" outers, besides one quote for 20" split rims, widened to 10", at $1600+.. per rim!! I ended up buying U1300 rims from a unimog specialist in the UK, and had 6 imported to aus for aud$1300 inc shipping.. that's more like it! Then had re-centered by a local guy for around 2k, which I thought was fair.
