Fuso SRW options

Looking through the threads, it seems that there are several alternatives for SRW (in the US market)

1. Recentered HMMWV wheels from Trailworthy Fab - http://www.trailworthyfab.com/Custom-Hummer-Wheels-w-Tire-Combos/
I like the beadlocks and the ability to mount new tires in the bush, but am concerned that this solution would effectively derate the GVWR at the rear axle.
Trailworthy has built Fuso rims and understands what we are trying to do.
*** Responds to emails ***
$1200/ 4 rims

2. All Terrain Warriors wheels - http://allterrainwarriors.com/products.html#wheelsandtires
Seems a very solid traditional (non-beadlock) steel wheel, with no concerns about GVWR impact.
ATW imports/resells these rims and wheelsets.
*** Responds to emails / phone calls ***
$2685/ 5 rims

3. Earthcruiser wheels - http://www.earthcruiser.com.au/specifications
I've found less information about these on the web than the others, but seems like an intriguing option especially since there is discussion of a beadlock wheel. Some of the photos seem to show an aluminum rim - which I assume is machined not cast but still not rock solid as the heavier steel rims.

4. Rickson Wheels - http://www.ricksontruckwheels.com/drw-to-srw.php
*** Rickson does not respond to emails ***

[5. Stockton wheels - http://www.stocktonwheel.com/
not seriously considering them due to multiple issues cited here and elsewhere but mentioning for completeness. Reported to be under new ownership so may be worth a re-look in the future.]

6. Firematic Wheels - http://firematic.com/fireshop/store1.cgi?p_id=RIK10B195&xm=on
19.5" rims with 36" IROKS, slightly wider rim than ATW, can handle GVWR no issues. $565/rim.
*** Firematic does not respond to emails ***

7. Stazworks - http://www.stazworks.com/rims.htm "Made to order 20" HEMMTT rims" up to 10,000 pounds per wheel. $300/rim raw

I've read through most of the forum posts but may have missed something - in particular interested in anything that gives more info on the earthcruiser options.

As I see it, it all comes down to the GVM (GVWR) that you intend to have.
Here in Australia, the only legal SRW for a 6 tonne GVM (as far as I know) are the rims from ATW (available through Sportsmobile in the US).
If the truck has been derated to 4.5 tonnes then there are more options. Alan's alloy wheels (available through Eathcruiser in the US) would be my pick for this GVM. Not only do they look good, they are lighter too.

Ah, interesting - I had not realized that the Earthcruiser wheels were not rated for the full GVWR.

Regarding ADR - since I am in the US purchasing products that comply with them is not a necessity but I appreciate the rigor that goes into making a product compliant and certainly take it into account as I look at these options.

It seems that Trailworthy Fab is building on the old style 8 and 12 bolt rims. The more recent Hummer wheels are rated at :
4080 lb per wheel (8160 lb per axle) 24 bolt (even spaced)
4540 lb per wheel (9080 lb per axle) 24 bolt (offset spacing)
so those are getting close to your rated rear axle weights (9880 lb for the Crewcab, 9480 lb for the Hackney rig)
BUT, they would only be as strong as the new centers ?
.
Also remember that a big difference in the wheel prices is if they are certified (DOT or Aussie) or are “Off-road only”, which I believe Trailworthy Fab are.
.
My person opinion is if I was running nice high dollar Fuso(s) like you and my ‘business' was automotive, I'd go with certified and proved wheels, such as the ones from Down-under (ATW, Earthcruiser, Alan, Kim)

What makes me interested in the HMMWV style is 1. beadlocks and 2. ability to change a tire on a rim without use of shop equipment. (I used to do split rings on Army 5-tons and even though it scared the crap out of me every time I put pressure to one after changing the tire, it sure was nice to be able to do trail fixes). At the end of the day I don't think it is a viable option because of the GVWR concerns.

Trailworthy will do the 8, 12, or 24 ( http://www.trailworthyfab.com/24-Bolt-Hummer-Wheel-Special-w-TIRE.html ) but agree that proven wheels are the way to go (having had to do a lot of certification stuff in past lives I'm less of a believer in the value of that v. working with a fabricator that really understands what they are doing and the materials that they are working with).

Assuming you went with the 24 bolt Hummer wheels for the load rating. I don’t see how unbolting 24 bolts, demounting the tire in the dirt/mud/sand/etc, remounting your new tire in said conditions, torquing 24 bolts is quicker/better then unbolting the Fuso’s 6 lug nuts, installing the new tire/rim and torquing 6 lug nuts.
.
For beadlocks you could always use something like this with ‘normal’ wheels http://innerairlock.com/beadlocks/
.
Looks.... obvious a personal choice. My point of view, my Fuso is not a rockcrawler and 30 nuts and bolts (24+6), plus slots, plus maybe rockrings are a pain to clean, inspect, and check torques (4 wheels x 6 = 24, 4 wheels x 30 = 120).

srw wheels ?

Yes, Stockton wheel is out and I believe closed down as well. Rickson wheel is up to speed now on the fuso wheels. I will be ordering new wheels to replace my Stockton ones. this round im going with 20" instead of 19.5 and will be running the continental mpt 81s.

Cheers lehel

Hi lethel1,

will you be going 10.5r20 (275) or 12.5r20 (335)?

Good to know. When you say 'up to speed' how many sets does that mean they have done, etc?

What is taking you to the 20s instead of the 19.5s?

Rickson has a nice video of their build process on their website.
