I was tempted, but a few factors worked against me:
1. I wasn't sure how much fuel I would need to go there, come back, and get to the next town on the highway.
2. I wasn't sure what "closed town" meant, but I assumed it meant that I would ride for an hour or 2 and then have to turn around at a gate.
3. I didn't have my lead-lined underwear on, and the "test site" references were disturbing...

Mecury is cool but often when you're knocking down 500+ miles per day, Uranus becomes a bigger concern.

After riding through dry dustiness it was nice to see flowers and green grass.

Also it was nice to see water everywhere again. Started to make me feel at home.

I know I am close to home at this point. My house is behind this mountain.

Once I got home it was fun trying to keep up with the boys on the little trails and fire roads in the mountains behind our house.
Every time we came to a stream crossing or cross-ditch I had to remind myself I wasn't on my YZF, and wouldn't have as much suspension as I am used to.
At the end of the day my muscles reminded me that this really is a pretty heavy bike, but I was impressed by how stable it was through everything I threw at it.
