I suspect that the Lite Cylinder recall may seriously harm Ragasco's business.

Did some scary reading..

Just finished reading the recall order documents. This is not messing around. These are dangerous products and need to be removed from service immediately. They show failure rates under the old testing guidelines of 441 psi for the 10-33 lb tanks ranging from 7% to 33% (!!!!) in 2012. New standards are 480 psi and one of the violations is that they weren't testing at the new 2011 standard as required, so the numbers are almost certainly worse.

FYI, If you are in the Salt Lake City area, Utah LP Gas has said they will accept mine for recycling. Note to self: Let somebody else be the guinea pig on 1st gen companies.

Ya THINK! If minimum wage'ers at the LP filling station are going to refuse to fill a Ragasco just because they can't tell the difference then that will pretty much kill Ragasco's chance of ever selling another one AND kill composite tanks in general. What an **********' mess just because Lite Cylinder didn't take the governing regulations seriously. And there's not a thing anyone can do. It just sucks.

I purchased one of these tanks about a year ago due to the weight savings. Didn't seem to be an issue. When I purchased it, I did so from the True Value in Franklin TN just mile down the road from the manufacturer. When I called them about it, they graciously tracked down a manchester #10 (new) and filled it for me, accepting my LCC in exchange. no Charge.
They said this was a serious recall and that the company will most likely not open back up again.

Update on rogasco tanks;

Rogasco (in US) is selling every tank they have, swamped with orders. They have no documentation that specifically shows their tanks to Not be involved in the recall.

Note that Composite Scandanavia did have DOT include thier tanks in the order, specifically stating they were Not involved. I commented to the Rogasco rep that she might want to get something from DOT that similarly states they are Not involved. As it stands, a careful reading of the recall order states that only LCC tanks are involved and the numbers associated with those tanks. Problem with that approach is, the person reading the recall must be smart enough to conclude that if the Rogasco tank is not mentioned in the order it must not be involved, and thus its OK to fill it. Theres a difference between a negative and positive defense, legally.

Found this on one of the PDFs on the DOT/PHMSA recall website: "DOT-SP 13105 (Only if manufactured by The Lite Cylinder Company. Cylinders
manufactured by Composite Scandinavia [M0408] and marked with this number are not subject to the recall)"

Composite Scandinavia is Rogasco.

Composite Scandinavia is Rogasco.

I was unable to connect composite scandanavia and rogasco. Apparently the home company is not too interested in its US operation.

That being said, rogasco tanks are not marked M0408 ("and marked with this number"), they are M0407.

Thus, the only applicable words are "...only if manufactured by LCC". Period, stand alone statement, the only qualifyers are the dot-sp numbers, which dont apply to the rogasco tanks. So while I consider that good enough, it is kinda thin when you're talking about people who arent good readers.

Amazon finally sent out a notice to me on this

I burned the rest of my fuel to empty the cylinder, but it's not purged, nor is the valve removed. Beside, leaving these in the side yard, what's everybody doing with their cylinders?

Yes indeed, my white fiber tank is made by Lite.
I guess there are only two brands that make these, the blue one I posted above, and the white one by Lite I bought last year.

Just got two other tanks filled at the local shop, owner said to bring in the Lite one, and they will exchange it for a regular steel tank.
I will use that for home grilling, so it looks like I will have to buy another fiber one online either from West Marine, or from Amazon.

Trident Rubber/Ragasco same company, but Amazon does not offer these as Prime, so I will compare their price to West Marine.

Went with another Ragasco one with Amazon, should be here is a week or so.
The local shop took the Lite one back from me and gave me free a Worthington tank similar to this one.
http://www.amazon.com/Worthington-2...&sr=8-4&keywords=worthington+propane+cylinder

Tall and narrow, about half the capacity of a normal barbecue 20 lb (5 gallon) unit.
The Lite one I turned in was around a 11 pound bottle.

Had to pay for the propane of course, but it was nice getting a free replacement, but this one will be a backup for home grilling, as I like to use the lighter fiberglass ones for camping.

Contact their customer service and ask, could not hurt.
I have found Amazon's CS to be top notch.

Just a piece of information for Canadian owners of Lite Cylinders (I own two 10#).

The online store I bought them from told me today that there is a voluntary recall in Canada. They are checking the details with their supplier to find out if we are talking about a credit or refund, how much either would be and what is the procedure to return them.
