Duraflame Logs to Circumvent Firewood Transporting Laws?

There are several videos on youtube that show people making their own duraflame logs. Basically they shred newspaper and soak it, jam the soggy newspaper into 2 inch pvc pipe and use a caulking gun to compress and shape the soggy mess. What one is left with is a foot long 2 inch duraflame that cost cents to make and a matter of minutes. Apparently they are fairly dry after compressing, but require drying in the sun. Mileage may vary, but they are cheap! Just a suggestion and a cool task for kids.

At one of our camping trips one of the guys from Virginia brought some bags of compressed sawdust blocks that are about 5"x6"x8" - he has a store that sells wood stoves and these are fuel blocks for the stoves. They burn for around 1/2- 1 hour each and put out a pretty good flame. No cleanup as they are completely consumed in the fire.
