water pump/faucet for milspec jerry can?

I use Scepter H2O jerry cans for water storage when camping. I was wondering if anyone has built or seen a product for pumping the water out of jerry cans? I figured before I set out to build my own I would make sure I wasn't "reinventing the wheel" so to speak.

Looking for inspiration!

I have one of the hand pumps like some of the slid in campers use. I have it mounted to a clamp that I hook on to my cooking table and run the suction side into my water can. Works like a champ and only cost me $40 or so to build. I will be drilling a hole into my cabela kitchen to mount the pump on this year.

This thread got me thinking, so today while I was out I went to West Marine and bought a hand water pump (similar to what is pictured) and installed it in the top of my scepter water can. All in all, it took about an hour. I drilled the cap out with a hole saw and plastic epoxied the faucet on both sides to prevent leaks. I was able to leave the vent in the cap, so I think it will work really well. I will put some pictures up soon, after I test it.

I've seen caps that attach to the cans, with a pipe going to the bottom, and an air fitting in the top, pumping the can up with air pushes the water out :)

Also commonly used to get fuel out

I've seen them too.

Here’s the product description:

With the Outback Pump, you can use any compressed air source to transfer your fluids without having to lift or hold your tank!!
The Outback Jerry Can Pump comes with 10 feet of industrial quality petroleum resistant discharge hose, so you won't have problems reaching your tank.

Jerrycans are protected from over pressurizing with a 5 psi blow off valve. A Shraeder valve provides an easy inflation point for any style air chuck. For a long and rust free life, all fittings are brass.

The Outback Pump can be used with gas, diesel, kerosene, oil, lubes, hydraulic oils or water.

Here’s a link to one retail source. There are probably others. $79.95. Spendy, but slick.

Very well done! Do you have any detailed pictures showing the underside and tube going to the bottom of the water can?

I've been toying with how to transfer water with the Scepter Water Cans for some time. I like what you have done here.

Cheers,
P

I used that new Krylon Fusion paint, and it doesn't hold up well at all. I am going to try to remove it as soon as I have time.
