thoughts on light provisions on/in front end protection.

I'm looking into front end protection for my truck, 2004 Chevy 2500. What I would like to hear about is those with inset aux lighting in their bumpers vs those with lighting mounted on their bumper? Pros/cons anything of the like. I would think that the inset lights could loose a lot of their light and aiming ability, depending on how sunken in they are. But it seems they would be more protected.

A set of long range, and a set of driving. Each light 130watt bulb. They are currently wired into my highbeams and switched also with the ability to select if they go through the high beams or independently switched.
