CDN M101 axle build

I've had this M101 for a while with plans to fix up as a replacement for my M416 one day. Anyhow, I'd pulled the axle and springs a while back. The springs were disassembled, sandblasted, primed/painted and reassembled using poly sliders and new bushings. The old axle with that 112mm bolt pattern didn't work with my Land Rover wheels. I didn't want to use adapters, as on my M416, because of additional wheel stick out. A couple weeks ago I parted out one of my Range Rovers and sawzalled the spindle assemblies off of the rear axle for this build. These were disassembled and the flange castings chucked in the lathe to face and bore to 2.70" ID. A 48" section of 2.5" ID (2.875" OD) schedule 80 pipe was chucked in the lathe with a steady rest. Both ends were cut down to 2.70" OD by 1.25" length with a nice beveled edge for welding. I wish I'd taken some photos of those steps. The pipe was then shortened by .5" at either end to reduce protrusion into the casing which would cause spindle interference. The pipe was clamped in a vice and the flanges fitted and welded. Next, the spring perches set up for a SOA configuration. The spindles, hubs and calipers were loose fitted. The trailer tongue will be lengthened and the lunette ring replaced with a hydraulic ball type unit to operate the calipers. Now that's serious overkill for a 1/4 ton trailer.
