Very nice. I have a small boat trailer that I have similar plans for, an open-top canoe/camping equipment trailer.

Is the axle in the original location? Generally on boat trails, they are very rearward to sit under the center of gravity for the back heavy boat... I expect to need to move my axle forward to sit under the center of mass of my cargo (canoe, boxes, etc)

I don't see spring shackles (not common on such small trailers) but are there slides for the springs? They appear to be firmly mounted front and rear.

One thing you might consider is reinforcing the upright pieces, if you were to brake suddenly there will be a fair amount of leverage/twisting force against the bolts holding them in place.. Something like this, proposed new truss members are in red. Force pulling forward on the boat (or, actually, pushing backwards on the trailer, i digress) would put red truss members in compression and have a lot of strength. Two would be a big increase, perhaps at the front to not get in the way of loading/unloading the trailer under the boat.

Did you keep the rear board removable like a tailgate?

yes the axle its in the original location for now ,, i guess time will tell if it neeed to be relocated .

definetly will reinforce the rack ..

im gonna add some gate hinges to be able to carry a large cooler in the back with the kayak on top ..

Thanks for your input ..
It looks good from here...
I might suggest something conspicuous attached to the long overhang. It might even be requirement where you are.
Yes your right anything over 4 F , need a safety red flag ...

You know, I've been looking for an older small boat trailer to modify into a canoe carrier and I've been looking for a small (4'x6' max.) utility trailer too.
I have completely overlooked jet ski trailers in my searches. I can see building sides onto a small jet ski trailer and adding the uprights as you have done to get both of my requirements in one trailer.
The wheels are turning now, thanks.

Just aged good and cleaned well.
Painted it on a hot day and the paint flashed fast.
It turned out well and makes hauling the Canoe much easier.
" no more lifting it onto the Buick wagon"
