Big50 I am curious about those Lowrance units that you guys use on your trips. Are you guys using auto specific units or just their units advertised for boats/fishing? It sounds like you can load your own tracks and route data onto them to follow, is that right? I am starting to think about adding something like that to my set up, I work a lot with GIS/mapping and would love to be able to put my own maps/data into the GPS and follow that for trips. From what I have seen it would be harder to do that on a GPS/audio system like lots of cars come with now...

We have guys using many different models. As long as it has gps it's good. Part of why we use them is they are simple, accurate, and reliable. For our group runs it makes things simple for loading maps and trouble shooting. If everybody is running something different it makes it hard to know all the different systems.

It's been a while since I checked in. Truck continues to perform well. Upgraded the power steering setup to a Howe system after destroying my second pump. Seem once the stock one goes stock replacements don't seem to last long. Original lasted over 50,000 miles and the second lasted about 7,000.

As for adventures, it's been a busy 2 months. Went to Baja for 5 days with the crew, went on a 3 day adventure with the wife and son, and a 500 offroad mile trip from Carson City to Tonopah and back. Really do love this truck performance and reliability given how much it's beaten. Also, still on the original set of Falkens. Not one flat after 17,000 miles and close to 5,000 offroad miles.

Raptor Apologist.
What is the backspacing and offset of those wheels? I still have stock special edition wheels but I'm looking at getting some aftermarket ones, but the METHOD are all 4.25 or 4.5 and 0 offset.

great build and awesome trip reports man! Enjoyed reading the thread and seeing where the truck is today. Nice evolution. Maybe I'll be able to catch one of your next runs, open to non-Raptors.

Cheers, AV

Why did you ditch the roof rack and light bars up high? Just curious as you were one of the first guys with the Gobi and got rid of it pretty quickly.

Right on and thanks!

I meant to take it off temporarily but damaged one of the rails when I tried to put it back on. After running it for a while I found I didn't really need it based on how I was using the truck so I gave up trying to get the replacement parts after trying to get them unsuccessfully from Gobi a few times. It would actually have been useful on the last family camping trip as I was running out of room to put gear. I may put it back on in the future.

Thanks,

Jeremiah

Quick question, but what do you use to map your routes? Do you just spend a lot of time looking at Google Earth staring at dirt roads to see where they go?
I don't suppose there are maps for off road trails of where you are going right???

Some are existing files I've mapped or collected. I use an atlas along with google earth. I typically starts with a a few POI than use a highlighter to plan my general route on the atlas. I then open up Google earth to plot the route. I convert it to lowrance and load it up to the GPS.

I like the storage rack, but where do you keep your camping gear if you have any with this setup?

Best pic I have of the bed with gear at the moment.

For remote extended camping my setup is as fallows:

In the middle of the bed is my spare, large toolbox with traction mats strapped on top, and 70 qt pelican cooler. All are strapped down to a bed rack that has bars running front to back which are a little wider than the bed bolts. I keep my tent and cot along the passenger side of the bed running front to back. I keep my cooking gear and toiletries in the large tool box along with tools. Sleeping bags are stuffed into that large camo duffle which is strapped down over the cooler. On the drivers side of the bed I keep our chairs, canopy, and 5 gallon military jug of water. Inside the cab I have a 45qt yeti strapped down to tie down points on the passenger door on the drivers side for easy access. We keep a duffle with clothes and a couple pillows in the center seat. My son sits in the rear right passenger seat.

Everything is secured via ratchet straps or lashings so nothing moves offroad. I'll make sure to get pics next time we go out.

Few pics from this weekend. Went out for some "urban" exploring.

Went out with my buddy to explore. Handed my camera to him to get some action shots. Something I don't have many of.

Also, got a cool clip of the Icon RXT kit in action.
