Ground tent on a raised platform?

A question for the budget minded builders: Has anyone used a ground tent on a platform like a RTT? I'm thinking of a tent that fits in the 5x8ish footprint over the top of the trailer. Other than the fact that a real RTT would be better/easier/cooler, etc. does anyone have any thoughts?

I really am liking the idea of a ARB Skydome Swag Double. About half the price of the cheapest RTT.

A regular dome tent may work on top of a platform. May need to secure it down.

I made a poor man's RTT with a deck of expanded metal and a 7 x 7 Coleman dome tent.
It was cheap and works well so far.

A $50 dome tent on some plywood and racks vs an expensive RTT on an expensive rack . Wow sometimes simple works better than not. KISS. Sometimes my creativity over works itself to the suffrage of my wallet.

The Awning on a stick was anouther cheap addition. I won it on ebay for a .99 cent bid with 9.99 shipping.
I cut off the deck mount and welded it up to fit into a 2" reciever.
