Alternate to M998 LED tail light

I've been trying to figure out an alternative to the Trucklite or Grote HMMWV LED tail lights at $+$120 each. The original ideas were to replace the bulbs with expensive LED bulbs or build my own circuit boards. On a fluke, I picked up a Blazer C542RTM for $18 at Walmart. The red lens was busted off to expose the LED circuit board. I intended to remove the board and insert it into the tail light assembly. That wouldn't work because the board is epoxied into the housing. I dropped it into the backside of the original light and it sat like it was meant to be! A few minutes with a die grinder on the front and that LED housing was snugly fitted. The blackout lens will be painted over from the inside. The photos of the illuminated lamps are with and without the camera flash. The light output is brilliant. Pictures say a thousand words.

Mil-Spec is awesome! So many manufacturers seem to use mil-spec on their products...whether on purpose or by accident. I found that several trailer light kits you can buy a NAPA, etc bolt right in place of my M416 taillights on the original bracket. Same bolt hole spacing. I want to put some LED lights inside my original housings and this may be the way to do it. Buy some round lights and retrofit. Thanks!!
