I can't believe I missed this thread. We love our old iron. I tend to get attached to my vehicles due to what I ask them too do and they do it without complaint (unlike some people). So here's our coral that's all still running and prepped for adventure:

-1987 FJ60 "RhinoRide" owned 13 years
-1970 FJ55 "WorkingPig" owned 6 years
-1994 Suzuki Samurai "Sami" owned 17 years
-2003 Kawasaki KLR 650 "The KLR". Owned 15 years
-1997 GMC Sierra 2500 4x4 "Bubba" owned 18 years
-1976 Triumph TR6 "Red Headed Girlfriend" owned 22 years
-1995 Tiger 4wd Camper "Le Tigre" owned 4 years

Wow...95 years!IMG_0091.JPGIMG_0039.jpgIMG_0126.JPGIMG_0123.JPGNov-Dec 2006 061.jpgIMG_0097.JPGIMG_1924.jpgIMG_1997.JPG

My 1988 Land Rover 90 is my daily driver and I love it! The best thing you can do for an older vehicle is service and drive it regularly. Start with a solid baseline. In my case, a rust free body and chassis with a recent repaint and abused mechanicals. So, out with the crappy 2.5 turbo 19J, worn out 5 speed, low ratio transfer case and peg leg diff and in with a 2012 Camaro 6.2L, 6L80 tranny, rebuilt 1.2:1 TC and heavy duty rear with a truetrac. Swapped it all out in my driveway and now drive it everywhere but past a gas station!

I've only had her a few months, but I'm steadily working to remedy all the neglect and abused heaped on it by former owners. The body and chassis are rust free, the 318 V8 has good compression, and it's only got 160k miles, so I have hopes that I can get ahead of the neglect and make it a reliable vehicle. It's a fight because Jeeps respond even more poorly than most to lack of maintenance. So far I've lifted it and rebuilt everything that moves in the front suspension, put decent ATs on it, done water pump and radiator, and a host of other smaller things. Today it runs good, but I still have a lot to do.

Very nice! I'm with you. I've spent near the last year killing off rust, replacing panels and running parts. The interior is all new as is the entire heating/cooling system, belts, lights and most all replaceable minor parts. I'm in the home stretch by replacing everything in the front end and new Blistines and waiting on warm weather so I can get it painted before the roof racks and awning goes on.
It's a long road but ain't it fun!!

New Year, new bump.

Here's my 2000 Ford Expedition loaded up for a good old fashioned road trip. We went from CO to Latta, SC and back for the week between Christmas and New Years. 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs. MOGs ranged anywhere from 10.3 to 13.5. Only paid over $2.00/gal for gas in eastern CO. I think the odometer is sitting at a little over 246,000 miles.

Stopped in KS on the way out:

Here's a shot from the skeet range looking passed the go kart track and toward the main house at the place we were staying in SC:

I've got a couple "adult" rigs. My 95 Ram 1500 with a 318 and a 5 speed with 206k and a 90 4Runner with about 180k. Unfortunately the 4Runner is a 3.slow and has the famous head gasket leak so she needs a little TLC but my Ram runs like a top. She just did about a 700 mile trip fully loaded without a hiccup. Hoping to re-gear after the old lady and I get married this summer and put a little more aggressive meats under her.

I guess I fall into the 18+ as of the new year. I have a 2001 Ford Excursion 7.3L that, as of today, has 254,000k on the clock. I bought it almost exactly 2 years ago at 235k for $7,500 and did a LOT of maintenance just to get it reliable since purchase.

Maintenance #1:
-Replaced leaky turbo pedestal and HPOP oil seals, bellowed up-pipes.
While I'matits:
-Turbo and pedestal EBPV delete (new exh housing/pedestal, not a hodge-podge job).
-DP Tuner
-Riffraff OCR
-IAH delete
-All the gauges
-4" Diamondeye straight exhaust

Maintenance #2:
-All new brake calipers, hoses, pads, rotors

Maintenance #3:
-Front hubs, Warne manual hubs, bearings, seals, ball joints, stub shafts, tie rods.
While I'matits:
-Front X code springs, 2.8" leaf packs, spring shackles, dual shock mounts, Bilstein 5100 dual shocks and steering stabilizer.
-Rear "modded" B codes with 4" blocks, new U-bolts all around, 20x9 XD 828 Delta wheels with 35x12.50 Mastercraft Courser tires.

Maintenance #4 (Unfortunately while in the WY mountains hours away from civilization):
-Front driveshaft (u-joints were so seized it didn't justify labor/cost).

Other mods:
-Spyder projector headlights with LED low beams
-LED rear backups lights
-Absalute Diesel Performance front winch bumper with LED pod lights
-Badlands 12k winch with 100ft synthetic rope and Smittybilt thimble
-Blue Lake Off-Road rear bumper & tire/jerry can carrier with fold-down table.
-Homemade roof rack
-Tepui Autana 3P tent

In the works:
-Roof mounted pressurized solar shower
-Overland-style kitchen sink/counter top that connects to jerry can holder swing-out.
-Solar powered 12v system independent of vehicle batteries

Love your 'fleet' but in particular the TR6  Owned one myself for 14 years, and now I wish I never sold it

Boss Hog,

Nice looking 60! I was sad you sold the 55, but you're still in the game. Any build plans for it?
I had big plans, but now I think I’m gonna keep things simple. I added an old-school ARB bumper, heavy springs up front, a new clutch, and a very useful old Rhino Rack basket. In the future, MAYBE I’ll add a 5 speed (we’ll see), definitely some 16” Tacoma steelies & 33” wheels, & continue to fix leaks. That’s about it-less is more for me with these rigs. The only time it’s broken down in 10,000 miles of ownership is on the Cruiserfest trail ride from Denver to SLC. Broke a tie rod end. Got that fixed with a back country delivery in short order (with Ige’s direction, heckling, & colorful commentary.) Otherwise, it’s been a blast! My ‘80 was my best Land Cruiser, my Pig was my coolest-but Walt the 60 is my favorite! I’m currently on a “FIFO” Land Cruiser spouse-imposed limit of one at a time (from a high of 4 LC’s at once).

For the record, I miss my Pig. Just could never get it “quite right”.

The Waggy turned 30 this year and it had a hard year or two. The smog pump froze on it, which broke the fan off at the fan clutch, destroying the radiator in the process. So, I did a full replacement of the cooling system: water pump, fan, fan clutch, radiator... and the smog pump. Beyond that, I had to put a new fuel pump in it. As of today, it is running great and is a joy to drive.

My 23 year old Land Cruiser needed new belts and a soft fuel line replaced. I accidentally nicked with a bolt for my sliders and the lines are for the diesel swap, so you can't blame Toyota too much for that one. I've been wheeling it hard and it loves it.
