12v Build thread, round 2....

I started a thread a couple years ago... it is still there... but... I would rather start the build fresh....

Well, the truck is a reg cab, 2001 Cummins... started out with a 24v, and an automatic.... went to swap a p-pump in, and found other issues...

Now, it has a 12v, and NV4500 5 spd. Unfortunately it doesnt have the 241HD t-case.... Anyway.....

The engine, as of this moment, has a freshly massaged injection pump, custom injectors, and massaged turbo, and some other goodies... got the truck back today from the injection pump fiasco.... WAAFREAKINHOO....

I never thought I would say this, but, I think I would like to dial it back a few notches.... though, everything that has been done, IS very streetable, reliable, and gets about 20mpg if driven..... properly...

Anyway, the rest of the truck, has been pure function. Aluminum hitop contractors cap.... I have done some things here and there, adding panels to secure stuff to.. no big deal... I will be stepping up on that VERY shortly actually....

Running 315/16s from Dunlop... sorry they stopped making them...

A set of leveling springs, with Bilstein 5100s at all four corners...

Custom made bumpers, with a hydraulic winch in the front, and, the plan is in place for a decent electric winch in the rear....

I have a 1500w(RMS) pure sine inverter, that I have YET to figure out where it is going.

I blew the last set of hydraulic lines on the winch, and need to make another set... this time, I want to run hard lines from the winch, back into the engine compartment...

Need to make a spare tire carrier and attach to the rear bumper, will be double shear.... time and money are 2 things that never seem to be in synch, so the build has been slow, but, has remained functional through each step...

Um, anyway... some fresh pics will come up online tomorrow... since its dark, and I was busy joy riding tonight....

I have been using webshots for a long time, and thinking, I will add a photo album on photobucket, just to host, so, no one here needs to click on links or thumbnails....

I am sure I am forgetting some stuff, so... tomorrow, I will post photos... some of how it sits at the moment... and some from day one with the 12v on the floor, and the trans on the stand....

I just need a new welder to finish most of my stuff....

EDIT, some pics, just click for bigger... since I know I will get my chops busted for no pics....

Well, got a bunch of pics on webshots... but, having a tough time moving them over the photobucket... SO... will upload a few fresh ones today anyway, and plan to start on some more work anyway.

Looks like a nice truck Chase. Can I ask what made you go back to a 12v cummins? Also, everybody loves pics, especially me!

Yep, after loosing the VP, was going to swap in a P-pump on the 24.... found a crack in the block.... put the p-pump back on the 12v, and stuffed the whole thing in the truck....

I will be getting some stuff done today, and will upload some more pics... fresh ones.... need to get a few things done, and get a sticker on it...

Okay, some quick pics....

Just the truck, nothing special, but, as it sits today... on my way out, to see if I can make a new bracket for the e brake...

And this, is something that was brought up in another thread. About securing stuff to the overhead of a cap. I had tried peg board before, but, that stuff doesnt hold up too well, and isnt at all strong...

SO, in the interim I hung some scrap pieces of 3/8 ply that I had left from doing my roof...

No comments on the wood work, I am no carpenter, and this is purely experimental... so, no real time is being put into it.... yet...

Anyway, hadnt gotten any further than hanging it when it got cold and wet last fall... The point, was to get sleeping bags, pillows, tent, and some other stuff(Light stuff), in as dry a location as possible, and up out of the way as well, leaving room down low, for bulkier, heavier stuff, even firewood(who wants wood chips in their bedroll?)...

Just going to use nylon webbing straps for the tent, and maybe some more.... and some sections of bungee line, for the bedrolls, and pillows..

Anyway....

So.. yeah, its ugly..... for now.... but, functional......

Chase, looks like you are making good progress, I as you know am a big fan of the 12 valve. I am suprised the 24 had a crack though, that is pretty rare out of a cummins.

BTW here is a bumper I built for my buddies 01 ram, figured you might like it. :bike_rider:

Cracks are somewhat common on a "53" Block 24V.

Chase did you save the block? check out lock-n-stitch if you did.

Yes, cracks are common...

Did I save the block.... NO... yanked the internals, and scrapped the block.... my buddy knew of the lock and stitch....

This truck build started as a pulling truck.... my life and plans changed... so... I turned it into something I would use every day...

Nick, yeah, that is a nice bumper... might, or might not make some holes for lights... been almost 2 years, and I am still not sure....

But, some of the blocks came through with bad castings, and some know NOW to look for those blocks.... I already had one.... So, instead of a p-pump swap, it got a whole engine... I am much happier for that....

Though, I think that when they shop did my pump, something got knocked off..... I have no temp on my gauges.... no big deal.....

I have so much other crap I want/need to do, just, dont have a welder anymore.... and a few other obstacles....

Looks like a very functional truck. I have a 2006 CTD and still think the 2nd gens are one of the best looking trucks ever made. I see you live in MA, any issues with emissions, due to swapping an older moter? I am down in RI and they aren't doing emissions on diesels yet, but they will be at some point :(

I figured I would have nothing but issues... BUT, I have no CEL, and, they dont plug it in....so... as of now, no problem with emissions.... I am waiting for the day though... when that happens, I will have to send it to Texas.....

Okay... so... aparently there is some bracket that attaches some of the e brake cables... well, its nothing but rot now.... SO... tried everything to find it... NOTHING....

SO, hijacked the spreader from my buddy's parts truck(Chevy).... didint even have to modify it... I am out of adjustment, but, until I can make the part I need, this will certainly hold, and allow me to get a fresh sticker....

SO... I need to patch some holes on the front fender(SURPRISE ITS A FREAKIN DODGE).

I cant really justify a set of replacement fenders at the moment, and I need a sticker.... SO... now to find someone local who can burn some sheet for CHEAP....

I had the bracket fail on me last year. I haven't replaced it yet but I believe NAPA does have the part. I will try to find the part #.
