This is so neat. Why didnt i think of this! Thanks for sharing the pics. I have most the stuff in my garage and will be making this soon. We lose our power often at home for hours at a time.

Are the switches necessary or just for convenience? I ask because most my 12v items have switches on them.

Nicely done. Your draw is so low, there is no reason to spend money or time with thick gauge cabling. Just use appropriate fuses when necessary.

i got out in the garage today and got to work. i skipped the fuse block for now because the local shop wanted $35 for a 6 gang block. will add it later when i find one at a yard sale or junk yard. plan to add a few more cig plugs, digital volt meter and a blue sea usb plug as well. there is a pig tail that comes out the side for battery tender. battery is a 115ah never start marine. was at walmart today for the cig plugs and saw the attwood power center. pretty cool and could be modified. $56 tho was a bit more than i wanted to spend. the round tin in the corner holds extra fuses.

thanks for sharing this!

I think this is a really cool idea. The big advantage of these home-built boxes is the much larger battery, as opposed to the car jump units that have small (usually 24AH) motocycle batteries in them. And who needs the cheesy air compressors and LED "work" lights included? I also like the idea of putting in a couple of USB sockets and, if you use a larger battery box, you could incorporate an inverter with a couple of 110V outlets. Has anyone built such a box?

USB chargers are the way to go! I just bought dual 2.1 amp USB flush mounted chargers from ebay. Those give you the ability to charge everything up to IPad.
