Northern CA trip on a R1200GS - I am in love.

Last weekend 5 of us rode 5 very different bikes from San Francisco up to Ferndale (Eureka) and down along the coast through the Lost Coast.

Since this ride was a bit too much for my Yamaha Zuma 49cc, I rented a R1200GS instead. This was my second weekend riding the R1200GS and I have to say we all were very impressed with this bike. Between all of us we had a SV650, a Buell Cyclone, a Suzuki TL-S1000, a BMW R1200R and the GS. Not only I had no problem following and even leading the Buell and the TL-S1000 on any road, but I was also able to explore every dirt roads and was in full comfort (it got pretty chill on some strech).

My previous bike was a XR650 and I have to say the transition over is much easier than I thought.

I really see myself buying one within a year or so.

Good fun.

I simply love my 2001 1150GS on the Nor Cal backroads... tight single lanes with no center line are the most fun :)

Good choices on bike and route!

That's one of my favorite "GS" roads in N. America:

Very nice...If you liked the 1200....take a look at the F800GS, available in September or so....85hp and 200 lbs. lighter than the 1150/1200!

wow, the F800GS does look awesome!

I think my choice will be between a KTM 950/990, R1200GS or this new F800GS...

:)
