Texas Overland Spring Roundup

Last weekend took my son down to the Texas Overland Spring Roundup. We had a blast despite the lack of "wheeling", Texas apparently has very little public land. The event was held on a ranch, we were up on a hill with a pretty beautiful view. I represented Nissan pretty well by assisting a one ton Dodge pulling a HMMWV trailer up the steep gravel climb to camp :smiley_drive:

Got this tablet set up with a Ram mount on the dash just before the trip, first time using Gaia. Still getting used to the app but working pretty well so far.
Also the new storage box arrangement is working pretty good. The pelican box is really easy to access where it is, I'm going to go ahead and bolt it to the mount for better safety/security.

Well the puter threw the P0420 again so I decided it's time to swap in the fresh cats. Pulled the passenger side (throwing the code) first and discovered that it was empty :Wow1: I'm assuming the catalyst got blown down stream, the muffler definitely has something rattling around in it now. Unfortunately the trucks PO had some secondary cat issues and replaced them with weld on universal cats so pretty much the whole exhaust system is one big welded piece of tube. Instead of trying to pull the whole thing out and try and shake the remaining cat guts out of it I'm going to pull the whole thing out and replace it with two new direct fit secondary cats and a Banks monster cat back. Parts should be here next week. Pro tip shopping on Autoanything: chat with the chat people, dude knocked $54 off my order if I placed it today.

I've spent hours over the last month under the truck trying to diagnose a new clunk sound when hitting the brakes with no success. Yesterday I was prepping the bed for a run to the landfill, pulled out my large bed box and found two scrap pieces of 2x6 behind it that were smacking the front of the bed. D'oh!

This wasn't exactly fun to pull out. The PO had aftermarket secondary cats welded in so it pretty much had to come out in one piece. This halfass bandaid repair relocated the downstream o2 sensors after the secondary cats, the stock set up has it located between the cats. This explains why my SES didn't start lighting up until the primary cat totally disintegrated.

The truck now has four new direct fit cats with all the sensors in the correct places and a sweet Banks cat back. After about 3/4 of a tank I'm averaging 15mpg around town, before it hovered around 11.

Next up are new valve covers and replacing a weeping power steering hose.

Did the overlanding thing with my kid this week, 1300 mile round trip and the truck ran like a top. Trip report shortly.

Thanks man. Yeah I'm pretty pleased with the Extreme Countrys, they are wearing well and staying round and balanced. Though TBH between them and the new cat back I think some dynamat might be the next "mod".
