Trasharoo, first impressions....

Went to install my Trasharoo for the 2nd time yesterday and was reminded what a pain in the balls it is on a truck without a swing away tire carrier. There's just no room between my tire and the door to squeeze my hands in there and connect the buckles, let alone tighten them.
A simple redesign putting one end of the buckles fixed at the top or bottom of the bag, and extending the straps on the other buckles could solve this. They could even probably save on strapping, plastic adjusters, and the stretchy strap keepers.

I remove mine after a trip and hose it off and let it dry then put it in the garage with the rest of the camp gear. Last trip was so dusty that it left a pile of sand in the drive when I cleaned it. I should have gotten a cheap surplus back pack instead of this device to at least save myself some money. An ALICE pack would work just fine.
I do understand the problem some have with trying to get it on without a swing-away carrier but not all things in the world are meant for every possible installation. One size does not fit all.
I really like mine, anyway.

I should say I really like it once its installed. Works well. And I get the "one size doesn't fit all". Just disappointing because they COULD make it that way with a very minor tweak, and probably save some money in manufacturing costs along the way.

I had one once. Well still do...sits in garage. Bought it a while back and loved it. It has seen places off road and such, has carried belongings, firewood, and lots of recovery equipment. Now at one point the buckles broke...got new ones so no big deal. Then it started to fade...meh I can deal with it. Then the straps started falling apart. It was hanging by one strap off the back of my jku when I had it. Glad it didn't fall off and cause an accident. Informed trasharoo and they basically said if u want a new one buy one. You must have had a 1st Gen blah blah blah. So since the R&D wasn't performed for longevity and for quality materials I have to buy a new one? I was sad

I cannot even get mine on my FJ Cruiser with two sets of Maxtrax on my spare tire.
It is very tight back there, and not enough room.
Even if the Maxtrax were not on the spare tire, it is very tight.
If I had a swingout it would be a lot easier from what I have read.

I already switched the buckles around so the top two straps will lock together, and same for the bottom.
Going to try this weekend running the straps through the slots on my Maxtrax to try and mount it.
I would like to carry some firewood in it for my vacation next month.

Very happy with our Trasharoo on our FJC.

I see a few FJC complaints. We have a '10 FJC and use the Trasharoo every time we go camping or off-roading. The first couple times I put it on it was awkward but after that it is a simple 4-5 minutes on and your done. We've had it several years (5 or so) and it's still going strong. It's fading and the buckles are showing their age but in the Texas sun... well that happens to nearly everything. lol We line ours with one of those black lawn and garden trash bags, with a spare in the bottom, so it's quick and easy to pull it out, tie it off and throw it away when full. Plus it keeps "stuff" from leaking all over. ;-)

We're very happy with our and when it give up the ghost, we'll promptly purchase another!

Rich, a woman I follow over on Instagram said she opens her back window and gets inside of here FJ to grab and buckle the straps.
I have the ladder back there, so prevents my window from opening all the way.

If my new way works, I will post it up.

Corey,

I had a Gobi ladder also, so no window access. Sounds like a pain to me. ;-)

If my wife can't help me I just bent a clothes hanger to grab the buckles to crisscross them through the tire mount.

I lost one on a trail in Canada, and another in the Pismo dunes.
That thing only stays on if you drive calmly, not "enthusiastically"

Wow, from what I can read, some of the complaint are coming from the fact that modifications were made to the vehicule and you would want trasharoo to ke a standard product work with youre one of a kind mod or specification.

It was also the first time I was hearing that someone wanted to make it work with maxtraxx on the spare. People are often using the trasharoo to transport their maxtraxx.

I would have tough that the fact that the back window of a FJ cruiser that does not open anymore with a gobi latter was a much more serious problem that having a hard time attaching the trasharoo to the FJ that as a latter.

Ho, and yep, sun kills every thing, even car paint.

I did have issue with a recently purchased trasharoo, but from what I could see, it was more a batch issue than anything else (a tan with the molle strap and EP logo. The previous one (regular black is still in very good shape after 6 years. I will put it back on the jeep until the warrantied one come to me.

And yep, I did change a few buckle of the old one. Sun or me steping on it, hard to say. Could be both.

They are nice addition if you are limited in space. I use it cause I can trow dirty recovery rope or gear in the back until I clean them, I use it for trail, and adventure trash with a garbagge bag inside, and I also use it for recycling stuff also on the trail. A different plastic bag.

But it might not be for you.
