3/4 Ton... Dodge or Ford?

In the 80s and 90s it was only the F250 that got a TTB. One Tons got a solid.

And the ones in the F250 were leaf sprung, not coil as shown in the photo.

The 1/2 tons and broncos that had the TTB were coil sprung.

Regardless, they are NOT good for heavy trucks.

This is a TTB in an F250

from what I gather, a lot of dedicated off road vehicles are adapting those things for use- obviously much lighter rigs... Jeeps and the like... it kinda makes sense, from a purely theoretical PoV. They can achieve some crazy travel both positive and negative after some tweaking..

Yeah, many pre-runner types love the TTB.

Longer arms and correct coils makes for a ton of travel.

And beyond the maintenance items, the TTB is a VERY tough axle.

And it does great off road once built correctly and dialed in.

But its horrid for a heavy truck.

The alignment is NEVER correct due to how the TTB functions. Tires are always changing camber.

And the load applied to the pivot bushings is astronomical. The bushing deform nearly instantly after replacing.

I know, I kept mine alive in my '96 F250 for years before finally calling it quits and doing a SAS to a Dana 60.

Problems are long gone now.
