GoAntenna Cell Antenna - Anybody using or seen these?

The GoTenna operates on 802.15, which is where 900mhz zigbee/xbee operates.

There's no problem with the GoTenna. It's a good idea. The reason nobody buys it is because they don't have a use case for it. Who actually goes outdoors to text with their friends?

So what's the advantage of the 802.15 communications? You can encrypt it 128bit AES, which means you have a reasonable expectation of privacy.
So if you need secure, encrypted point to point communication, 802.15 is the way to go.
Texting via cell phone also allows for asynchronous messaging. You can send a message, have your target receive it, and have it read later.

One problem with 802.15 is that 802.11 is actually a much bigger hammer for ad hoc networking, especially with MIMO and high gain omni antennas. If I were thinking about seriously building a mesh network, I'd go with with 802.11 instead.
