CVT Summit Series discussion

So we're currently getting ready to pull the trigger on a large RTT and I have it narrowed down to a CVT Mt McKinley for our family of 4 to mount to my long bed Ram. Recently there have been new announcements from CVT products like the new color (green tent with brown fly) and now the Summit Series. I'm not finding much out there on the SS but what is offered on their site and a few forum posts since they're so new. I wanted to start some conversation here to see if anyone else knows or has seen any of these special features. I'll offer what I've found so far...

So it sounds like overall the whole tent is 'beefed' up. Fabric, pole fittings, fly, buckles, straps, travel cover, etc. Also sounds like they have addressed some of minor gripes and common wear parts. The floor composition is supposed to be more resistant to denting due to it's honeycomb and double walled aluminum makeup. The anti-condensation mat is also included and is different than the one they show on the site. I wonder if this aluminum skinned honeycomb floor with condensation mat will help that? Power and lighting in the tent is something I would have planned to do but would like to see this in more detail as well.

COLORS: it took a few phone calls to completely clear up the offerings. Basically it boils down to the standard tents are all offered in the sand tan tent with brown fly or the earth tone (forest) green with brown fly. The Summit Series tents all have black rain fly's and the tent color is either the lime green or a new olive/tan that hasn't been released yet (but is not the same as the earth tone green). This new color is what is expected in the next shipment ~mid May.

I'll post picts of what I've found online so far.

Some pictures of a lime green Summit Series. Next shipment will be the olive/tan and then the following shipment will be back to lime.

I found this shot of one with an led light string attached to the middle pole. I'm not sure if that's something that was added or if that is off the production line.

The new features look like a big improvement over the standard CVT offerings. Any increase in durability of the materials would be a good thing. I've had the cvt mt rainier for 3 years now and while it's OK, the long term durability of the materials appears questionable

Any specific part of just fabric in general?

Outside of the thin fabrics, the floor is fairly soft and dents easily. Having said that, it's been a decent product and still going strong

We are waiting and going with olive/tan color, just can't do that bright green...I've also spoke with Jamie a few times regarding when the new color shipment will arrive, we are hoping to have the tent by the 22nd of May, but that might be pushing it. Thanks for the pics, we have not seen some of those yet.

I agree, the bright green is too much for me. I will be watching for the olive/tan color to be coming out. CVT also mentioned on a FB post that a gray model would also be available but who knows when that would be. Seeing how my truck is gray that would be my first preference but that would depend on how far out that is expected to be.

The support poles for the overhang look good. I've considered adding some bracing there as the water collects on the fabric and pools rather badly. The new revisions almost make it look like a "finished" product, very nice and I don't even mind the neon green

I have the Tepui version of this. I would be curious to see if those awning support poles would work with my tent. Certainly would have considered CVT if this was available last year.

Has CVT released any info about the weight increase of these Summit Series models vs standard?

I just called CVT via my old land line telephone. They have yet to weigh any of the Summit Series tents - but the person on the phone estimates that they weigh 30 to 50 lbs more than the original models. So, my guess is the smallest of the Summit Series will weigh anywhere from a 125 to 135 lbs.

Also, the tan color will be available in May.

The McKinley is already at 196#. Good thing it's going on a 1 ton. :smiley_drive: Anything has to be lighter than the truck camper we had.
