Usually the cost of a replacement battery exceeded the value to replace the tool.
That is often the case, but it's also one of the reasons I really like my Dewalt 18V NiCad tools. I can have the big XRP batteries rebuilt with fresh Japanese (not Chinese) cells for $36 each with higher capacity than factory batteries. Have also had some of the NiCads rebuilt with NiMH cells for increased capacity and runtime. I go through a lot of batteries when things are humming, and it seems that the Dewalt housings can be rebuilt a lot of times. Been doing this for years, and have not yet had a pack that could not be rebuilt.
