What trans did you put behind it? I have a gmt400 ccsb 2500 with the 4l80e that Im getting ready to redo. I have a '92 Cummins 12v turbo with the 5speed (nv3500/4500 not sure)and I just picked up a 8.1ltr, one of those is going into the truck but I want to stick with an auto. The stock 4l80 will work with the 8.1 but I dont think I want to leave it behind the cummins.
My suburban is a gmt800 2500 with the 8.1/4l80e and I love it but the thought of a 12v in my truck makes me giggity.

I used my 4l80. It’s held up great. I can tell you if I redid it again I’d second guess the Cummins. It’s so dang big... it fits, but barely. Idk the dimensions of the 8.1 off the top of my head but a 6.0 would be the easiest and best bang for your buck imo. But.... the Cummins is pretty freaking cool, so there’s that.

I already have the 12v and the 8.1 sitting there and I have an 8.1 in my suburban. Going to a 6.0 in a truck Im gonna rebuild from the ground up just isnt going to make me happy. Whether its the 6.0 or 8.1 I have to make the same changes. ECU, wiring harness, and exhaust manifolds. It already has the dual three inch exhausts for the big block and the forged front end. Most of my toys that it will be hauling are pushing 10k. The plan has been the 12v for several years but I really dig the 8.1 and the lack of diesel stink.
