I am thinking to go either this tuesday or sat/sun, but on weekend days but I have to be in north hollywood area by 6:30PM for work. It would be awesome if you can go with me, since I have not had much experience in doing trails myself.

I wouldn't mind going this Tuesday, but I wouldn't be able to head out until about 2:30 pm. If that works for you, let me know. This weekend is a no-go for me. Send me a pm with your phone number to discuss further.

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.
I was looking over tires and wheels last couple of weeks, and think that I am sold on a set of 265 75 16 cooper discoverer st maxx.

The Coopers have worked very well!
Snow, ice, desert, and mountain driving (no crazy rock crawling)...no complaints.
I'm running E load, and they are tough tires with a three ply side wall.

Great looking rig!!
Thanks for sharing.

Looking good and impressive you did all the top end work yourself. Most (including myself) would have decided to give it to someone more knowledgeable.

A few little updates, and than you to everyone for positive comments!

Last week I got to hit a trail with one of the members - billygoats, he has a very nicely built 2.5 montero. That was lots of fun and showed me that the car is very capable even stock. I found a few issues that were limiting me like my current tires, so that is a number one thing for me to get. I was surprised how well the lsd works with a help of a handbrake, makes a car climb very vell.

I finally ordered some 265 75 16 cooper st maxx tires, discount tire had a sale on them on ebay, so was able to save 200 on 4 of them. I decided to keep the stock wheels for now. Will experiment with some wheel spacers, but so far my test did not make me happy because it gave me a vibration at 70mph. I will try installing spacers again once new tires are installed, and I will try to clean all the rust off brake rotor surface and rim surface so that the spacer sits more true. Another update is I ordered ome front struts and springs and rear springs, so should have that installed soon hopefully, and then it will be time to hit some trails.

Today I got my new tires delivered. I went with Cooper ST MAXX in 265-75-16 size. So far I like them, they seem to be really aggressive, but don't produce too much noise driving. You can defiantly hear them while driving, but not too bad, you can hear them more with all the windows closed, and can barely hear anything with a window open. The thread is a little wider then my old tires, it measures about 8.5 inches. The weight is 53.5 lbs a tire. My truck sits about an inch higher now then before, and it doesn't seem like I will have any rubbing to worry about, it seems to clear all the plastics by about .25 of an inch at full lock. The ride feels harsher, but the tires are now set at 40 psi, will experiment over time to find best mix of psi for handling, tire wear, harshness and fuel economy. I have my lift components coming on Friday, so should be ready to hit some dirt in a week or two. Here are some pics.
