I have the XD and XD 3 and both work very well for my head and I have no complants.

How would you compare the two?
Is the cooling with the new venting a noticeable improvement?
You say you are happy with both designs but the reviews say the shape has changed slightly. Is the change so slight that it not noticeable?

There really isnt any difference other than the location and shape of the vents, the noise difference is slight with the 3 being less and no noticeable difference in cooling, as far as fit there isnt any difference if an XD fits you then your good.

Fit is the issue. I had a Shoei Hornet (XL)..nice helmet but did not fit very well at all. It seemed to "push" against the top front of my melon.

I had the same problem with my Shoei TF-280V
