Scroll up and you may see something that has bothered me for months now. So I drove over to his place and stole it while he was sleeping off a night shift. He did notice immediately but I tried to convince him he must have absentmindedly lost it somewhere, didn't exactly work I think someone snitched on me.

Using my primitive neanderthal hand tools and dim memories of classical painting courses, I set to work on this turd-er-ella. Took some bending and hammering to try and flatten bits out or fix huge bends. Sanded down a lot of old paint. Later we had to paint strip most of the rest anyway. Good call.

Then I went to the hardware store before the county deputies descended upon my residence for a grand theft warrant. Picked up some satin white paint (rustoleum 2x paint/primer spray) and model enamel black, some brushes (can't find mine). footnote here: If I was to do this again I would use a higher gloss than satin, but I was afraid it would be too much. Not the case here.

Turned out alright if I do say so.

Also, he got a new bumper and painted that.

Some photos off my phone of his progress since he hasn't updated the thread

Pre January 2018...

After the August camping and before our January trip most recently, rear pinion seal was replaced

And the coolant needed changing (brown rusty looking water)

Thought that might flush the heater core and fix the almost no heat issue but no it did not

Then major play in rear prop shaft, pulled that and tried to swap in a known OK used spare off the yellow 110...

One cup missing all needle rollers. Nice. Another cup chipped, whole shaft really needed to go. See fragments of broken needle rollers in adjacent cups...

In the end what we did not know is that early land rover 90 models have earlier SIII sized u-joints fitted in otherwise similar prop shafts to later ninety/oneten and defenders. So when we put an old spare off a later shaft it was not the right size and had enormous play, ended up getting a new shaft from RN that arrived later, rear shaft now matches later defender specification

Loaded the car on a trailer a week before the trip and sent it down to the desert to wait...
