Nice work with those front stub axles. Having access to a fully equipped machine shop sure makes that kind of work easier doesn't it? :coffeedrink:

It sure doesn`t hurt...

Meanwhile i started removing the front bench seat:

This will replace it:

The idea of a clothes and boot drying closet is great for skiing. I have been looking into the heated boot bags for the same reason, as my van setup is much simpler with allot less amenities.

I´m really curious about it. Would be awesome if it works out...

So i finally removed the front bench seat today:

Looks like i can fit both house batteries there :

Looked for a resistor:

To tell the srs ecu that there`s a seat belt tightener missing:

New seat looks pretty good:

Will build a mount and swivel base for it tomorrow.

Then i cleaned everything:

Put in some music and heat and started insulating:

Nice view for the neightboors:

Finished until the seat goes in:

Was surprised the stock covers fit that well over it:

Yeah, i hope it works out...

So i cut the bench seat mount today:

Batteries fit like a glove:

Made a mount for them:

Looks good:

Going to use a wheel bearing out of a car as a swivel. Had to tun down the wheel center:

Cut some steel:

First pieces in:

Put the vice back on the mill:

And milled a bit off the u steel:

This is how the bearing goes in:

Mocked it up:

And laid down some welds:

If you do a hydronic (wasserheizung) system, use a heat exchanger and a small pump to separate the heat source system from the floor heat system. It will be easier to control the temperature instead of having continuous 100°C+ engine coolant flowing through the floor.

I'd suggest using PEX tubing for radiant floor heating. It has an air barrier wall to prevent oxygen from entering the fluid system which could cause corrosion. Using a product like Schluter Bekotec glued to the metal floor will provide insulation below the heating pipes, and then fill the voids with lightweight concrete to help transfer the heat.

Very nice work. I am jealous, I wish I had a machine shop still. This is looking like it will be an excellent build.

Thanks man. I`m trying to build this thing right.

Added some plastic plates where the seat will rest on:

Then i made a lock for the swivel:

Got a call from the tranny shop, they`ll finish the front differential tomorrow. Also a lot cheaper than expectet...

You remember this one?

Didn`t like that...

So i put a piece of tool steel in the lathe...

And made a tool for those nuts:

Got the differential back on friday:

Also ordered some new tires. Nokian Rotiiva AT for summer time, Cooper Discoverer M+S for the better time of the year, both in the 235/75R15 flavour. Can`t wait to see the new stance with the bigger tires...

235/75R15 will definitely improve the look/stance. In the USA most 2500 sprinters came with 16" rims and 225/75R16 tires which were about 30mm taller than the 235/75R15. Tires up to about 77cm diameter fit without problem on my sprinter. Any larger would mean removing the mudflaps, and maybe some trimming.

Here is my van with 245/75R16 and 2" body lift, which puts the ride height about the same as a factory 4x4?.

The 235/75R15 are just about in the middle between the stock tires and your`s. Your`s would be too big for me, cause i like to use chains and need just that little extra clearance. I think this`ll be the perfect size.
